Windscreen washer jet!

Post by Shermio » Wed May 31, 2006 12:01 pm

Hmmm after reading up on this thread at Miata.com about how sucky the washer jet is on the MX-5s, I too want to change to the spray type nozzle... the OEM ones are pretty hopeless, and if the Ford escape or Mazda tribute are original parts and fit without tempering I am very interested!

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=181866

I wanted to know if the same thing applies here... and if anyone can source a cheap price for them :D maybe a group buy!

[edit] I just phones North Harbour Mazda and they say they don't know if the tribute washer jet is the fludic ones and the part number from the US site is not the same as here... If there is someone in the know that would be great!

you can also upgrade your pump by fitting a Holden commodore VT or newer pump. capable of much more pressure and flow.

That's the thing... I don't like the flow, it is like a watergun and is pretty useless...

The fluidic system makes the 'jet' into a fan pattern spray and will cover much more area... look at the photos between MX-5 and Tribute comparisons on Page 3... :P

I like new tech that functions well

I just ordered some direct from http://www.directpartsconnection.com
USD$10.82 for a pair + freight. I doubt buying locally will be much cheaper.

Did they give you a shipping quote or did you just push on through
their ordering system and hope, the way I just did? What "state" did
you give, given they required one?

Heh, it's not much fun getting to near the end of their US-centric
order process -- with the cart full and all cart details etc. entered --
and THEN be told to "email for a quote", with the helpful "you can save
your cart" -- but not how. Let's see what ensues, anyway.

At least they mention overseas orders, so there's hope :)
cheers,

Windscreen washer jet!

You should have ordered 10 sets.  You'd move them easy on the list :)

There was an overseas option, it just wasn't very obvious
;-)

Yeah should have done a group buy :P

But then again I know the Mazda has the stock it's just a pin to go down there and ask them to test the windscreen washer on a tribute... But, I suppose there will be no wait time, nor shipping cost involved by buying locally :D

Of course you'll need to upgrade the washer bottle to a 15 gallon tank that sits in the boot to keep up with the increased flow.....

The nozzle does not require increased flow and uses same pump it essentially just replaces the 'shower head'...

However, I might relocate the old MX5 one to the boot to fend off over bearing 4X4s  which will require the 15 gallon tank in the boot :D and it will also have the "Look uncle/pa! I lowered my car without spending heaps on suspension parts" :P

FWIW, directpartsconnection sales have contacted me about shipping (no probs, they're happy to use mail to keep costs down) and I've asked if they can perhaps slip six more units -- three sets -- in with the package at this late stage.

If they're good enough to do so, I'll certainly be mentioning it. :)
cheers,
peter

The parts guy at North Habour Mazda, quoted me $15.50 +G.S.T (Tribute 2005) each, but they do not have them in stock, so he could not check if they have the rectangular outlet or the same as the MX-5 old ones that squirt.
