Yes I suggested that twice, but the chap was convinced it couldn't possibly fit there. I'd love a picture of that area of an NB with sideskirts to be able to see if the fender liner was on top of or behind the side skirt

Didn't really get much of a look at their work areas, but they always seemed to take longer to do stuff than the expectation they set ("ring back after lunch" *rings back* "will be done tomorrow morning" etc)

Pretty disappointed with them/the whole situation really.

yeah it's off a few mm in all sorts of places. I think they probably drilled all the holes in the wrong places (trying to make it fit flush with the door) and now it can't really be moved without drilling more holes/making a mess I imagine.

If it was just minor aesthetic imperfection I could deal with it, im kind of concerned now though that the large gaps will just let dust/dirt/leaves in, then it will get rained on and slowly rot/rust through the paint and then panels underneath...

What I am concerned about is all the holes they have to drill to fit them, I hope they painted all of them or they will cause RUST
I have just fitted a pair of side skirts and you do spend a bit of time to make a good job.I would be really pissed if that was my car.
I didn't make a mistake. I gave you a observation test and you JUST passed.

yeah given the "attention to detail" they've given the rest of it, it's hard to imagine they've been very meticulous with painting any drilled holes.

thinking I might need to just take them off myself and check, then refit them properly.

After reading this thread and thinking about it for a few days,

I think they are completely entitled to charge you an extra $250 or what ever to kit the kit that You Supplied.

It didn't fit right, that's not their fault, if it should be factory equipment, then it should find the right holes and nothing should be wrong,

But what if its no OE plastic stuff, with worn out molds that don't line up?

If it was me, I would charge extra fitting.

For someone to have to muck around for an extra two Plus hours trying to get a 'factory' kit to line up right and be perfect...

How far do you go?

It could have cost you a lot more then that... Easily.

What if they were stiff lipped and stubborn?
You would have paid the same and still have a shit fitting kit.

I've had situations where I've had to suck it up and take it on the chin, because something has happened.
But some times things are unavoidable and who does the cost go onto?
The customer.
And that's fair,
I think,
As long as they're kept in the loop.

ie.
Rebuilding a diff they had supplied...
Tear it down, and it happens to need new bearings, That's $200 extra straight away.
unavoidable.
That's mechanical.

Body work is even Worse.
I'd hate to be them right now.

How far do they go?
They could have torn you a new ass hole.
But they're trying to fix it.
Well done for them for trying.

It's not rocket science to clip on a lip kit,
But if it's ill supplied then you're going to have problems.

The factory kits don't have holes to line up with, the fitter manually drills holes in the sill and guards. It is honestly as simple as lining it up, drilling holes and either riveting or screwing it in place. This particular sideskirt is best fitted by starting at the back and then working forward. You have one person hold it in place and the other drills the holes and applies fitments.

I understand your stand point BRM, but this is seriously NOT rocket science and the time taken and extra money asked for I feel is totally unreasonable in this case. If you come to the next meet or Automania I would be happy to show you what is involved using my sideskirts as an example.

I did pay them for the extra labour and i'm happy to pay for work done to a professional standard.

It was the OEM plastic stuff though. Ross from mx5mart literally pulled the original sideskirts off one NB and sent them to me with all the hardware.

Mazda part number NC10-V4-900F...

I don't mind the extra cost if they'd done a good job and I was paying for legitimate labour. If they didn't think they could do it, they shouldn't have quoted and gone ahead with it. If they ran into issues and thought it would be problematic or that it would cost significantly more than expected they should have contacted me and discussed it and not gone ahead and drilled holes.

None of the parts supplied were ill fitting in the slightest. It's not rocket science to do a test fitting with painters tape and mark/drill where the holes are going to be or give me a call if they think it wasn't going to work...

The services offered are covered by the consumer guarantees act. The services they provided weren't performed with reasonable care and skill, perhaps also failing the 'fitness for purpose' test too.

Decided i had nothing to lose by taking them off. Bare metal where the screw holes are (including on the left below which was under the plastic, not with anything screwed tight into it like you might expect given the paint removed around the hole):

Very very poor fitting. I stand by what I said POOR.
I would not have paid or picked the car up looking like that,it would be a court case. I am sick of Clowns taking on jobs they are not capable of doing right. You see it time and time again.
One thing to remember pay a fair price for a good job
Pay a cheap price get a shit job

They didn't use the rails at the front that I supplied either, so the front was never going to fit properly. I'm just hoping they haven't thrown them out yet.

Will re-do the lip and sideskirts myself as they fit perfectly when you line them up at the right height. Did a test fitting with just tape and I honestly can't see how they got it so wrong.
