Post by warrior » Thu Feb 06, 2014 4:39 pm

I am going to replace the engine mounts in my wifes car, just want OEM ones.

Where is the best (cheapest) place to buy from and does anyone know the appox price of them?

Try the mount shop, they've been quite reasonable when I needed some for my Honda

Those ones you linked aren't too stiff. I have them but then again my idea is probably different from other people :-P

Have you called a Mazda dealer? I seem to recall hearing that the OEM part wasn't very expensive.

Pretty sure you'd find something on CR or miata.net?

I have only done them with the engine out, but if I were to do it I would disconnect the top radiator hose, remove the CAS & coil pack plus the left rear engine earth and maybe the heater hoses.
Then remove the lower-outer engine mount nuts and jack up the engine slowly until you can reach the three engine mount bracket bolts, loosen and hope there is enough room to get them out somewhere otherwise you will be taking out power steer pump-alternator exhaust etc [whatever makes it happen].
Just keep an eye on the firewall as you jack and place axle stand or blocks under the engine for safety.

Or you could lower the sub frame down from the engine [secured so it stays up] if you have the gear but you will have to disconnect the steering shaft by the sump and the sway bar etc????

Good luck!

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=miata+engine+mounts and the first link I got seemed to have the details you were after. No specialist tools required and I only skimmed through it but it was the 5th or there abouts post

Here's the relevant page from the Rod Grainger shop manual (for the 1.8, but should be pretty similar on a 1.6)
