Wee1 Racing at Taupo Jan 11 2014
Had a pretty succesfull weekends racing last weekend.
Drove to Taupo via the Megasquirt dyno for some tuning, Jared did a great job and really recommend using his services!
245HP at the wheels with a turbo that came in to boost at 5k!!! (we think maybe 255 - 265 or more will be achievable with a more suitable sized turbo...)
Seems the new manifold has exagerated that the T28 turbo is not quite right for the little 1600 motor! Thats alright, we suspected this to be the case anyway and will be looking for a smaller hotside than the current .86. Boost at 4k (previously) with the old short runner manifold needed looking at anyway.
However, going from 60 odd HP to 200 ish at 5000 revs made for a pretty difficult car to drive! took the whole of Friday to get used to not spinning out on corner exit and then all day saturday to not do it while in and trying to pass traffic.....
The great news is we qualified 2nd of 17, came 4th in race 1, 7th in race 2 (handicap start fom 55 secs and last off the grid) and race 3 6th (same handicap) nd posted the fastest lap[ of the weekend with a 1.44.9. With the boost issue fixed we will now have a truly top, competitive car for the Classic Japanese Class and hopefully give these Hondas a good run for their money!!!
Hopefully the link here will work for in car of race 3 where I finally get a good start (full throttle and dump the clutch ) only to blow it 3 corners later

Was nice to meet Euan and a few other MX5 enthusiasts over the weekend.
As usual HUGE thanks to Kasey (Cordedbowl) for the great race mechanic work and another big thank you to 2low2c who fixed a small "cockup" I made whilst removing the water goose neck pre the race weekend!! (you are a legend!!) and Donovan for the trailer.

Nice going Mad K...I did a playday at Hamptons the same weekend and was happy to not be passed by a Renault Megaine RS Turbo with around 260hp [told by the owner they are the current Nurbergring fastest front wheel drive production car].Apart from a bit of brake fade & oil loss it was a fun day with my bigger diff & modified exhaust.

Nice video Mark
Thought you did pretty bloody well considering the narrow powerband
Those Hondas got eaten for lunch on the straights.
Smaller turbo and another 30 odd hp and she'll be unstoppable.
You might have to upgrade to the GT 1 class for some competition

Sticking feathers up your butt does not make you a chicken
Haha, I still get a smile on my face when I remember how the revs went from 5k to 8k so fast!!
Man that is a blast I can't even fathom what fun it will be when it does it from 3500 to 8000 revs !!
Hopefully come your way soon to dial in whatever new setup we end up with.
Oh, did the knock sensor arrive alright?
