Got rid of my old and extremely old steering wheel, shift knob and gear gaiter. Love The weight of my new shift knob, the steering wheel is so-so at this stage.

Faced with a long racecar rebuild, picked up a LF guard from Brownie and Darcy at Mazline in ChCh (highly recommended nutters, oops...I meant enthusiasts), enroute from Hamilton to Arrowtown in my newly acquired NC.
Stopped off in ChCh to have the lads at Magoo mufflers replicate a Goodwin Racing single exit rear muffler! Perhaps an AEM intake would set it off? Maybe some RX8 sways? Sorry Brownie, I did hear what you told me, but my memory ain't what it used to be!!!

You obviously don't need to run a full cage in SI endurance rounds? =\

Good thing you're alright after that. Man...

Are you planning to repair it? Would be awesome.

Time for a windscreen chop for an F-Prod racecar? =P

Ouch! What kind of roll bar did it have? Was it just a single roll? Good to hear you are ok!

Thanks to all for the messages of support...and yes, a full cage has some benefits, and my rebuild will include one!
The existing homologated 'half cage' is welded in place with 6 mounting points and did not move, despite the car going over at least twice and was used to crane the car onto the tow truck and subsequently onto my trailer.
The car will be ready for next seasons long distance series as the chassis appears to be fine (at this time).
Cheers

I'm not doubting the strength of the cage.

Just, wondering why you're alowd to run only a half cage,
Without any thing going forward.

At the Hampton 12. Hour, we were pitted with a 2k cup car.
No cage what so ever, he got away with it because it wasn't a
proper sanctioned race or something.
Which I guess is.. some how ok.
But running against cars that can easily do 250 kays and Are fully caged.
I just think its a bit silly.

After finding out that aluminum wheel nuts are now illegal (Thank you for bringing this to my attention RedBen) I binned them and ordered some steel replacements online and by luck would have it they arrived today :)

Any source on this alloy wheel nut claim? I haven't been able to find any other reference to it.

I have seen nothing online after a quick search, but after some friends of mine said the same thing about them being made illegal I assumed it to be fact. Either way, I feel safer with steel wheel nuts as opposed to aluminum ones. :)

Very little info out there.

Certifiers will not pass them
Police don't even know what they're looking for.
Wof guys are much the same.

How would you know by looking at them? To me metal is metal and then if they're painted... It's not like the EVER take a wheel off

A lot of older Porsche's have factory aluminium wheel nuts, it will be interesting if they try to fail one of those for wof.

There was an LVVTA PDF file I read a couple months ago which confirmed they are no longer road legal.

Perhaps this:
http://www.nzfwda.org.nz/?module=upload ... fileId=101

Quote:
"Watch for Aluminium Wheel Nuts"
Occasionally LVVTA has it reported by LVV Certifiers that
vehicle owners are turning up for LVV certification with
aftermarket wheels fitted, which are attached with aluminium
wheel nuts. LVVTA emphasises that due to an inherent
lack of tensile strength in commonly-available aluminium
compared to high tensile steel, aluminium wheel nuts must
never be used.

It's an odd one I think because there's zero provision for or mention of it in either the VIRM or LVVTA certification thresholds.

It's also somewhat silly because it immediately disallows alloys such as duralumin which I believe have greater tensile strength than your average steel wheel nuts. At least having some provision for them to be of reputable manufature would be nice.
