Thought this might be a good idea for a sticky, as I couldn't find where to post up!

Hey, I'm Shaarn, I've been lurking around this forum for a while and finally got myself an MX-5 :D Picked it up a couple of days ago straight after it was listed for sale. I missed out on the supercharged one in Tauranga a couple of months back, so knew when this one came up I'd have to pounce on it.

Details:

- 1996 NA8C MX-5 Roadster supercharged in Red
- NZ New
- 109,000 kms
- 1 owner until December 2012
- Very tidy paint and interior
- M45 Supercharger (can someone please confirm?)
- Subtle aftermarket audio system
- 220k speedo
- Mint soft top with new glass window
- Toyo T1Rs 205/50/15s all-round

...that's all I can think of off the top of my head anyway. Here are some photos (apologies, will get better shots once the weather starts clearing up!):

I've got quite a few plans for it and am in the process of sorting parts now - though it is still going to be my daily, so will look at getting some decent coilover suspension and custom roll bar made up first, and go from there!

That radiator looks even worse in the light :P

Hey just a question ....Are these Aluminium Rads any good :?: :?: Has anyone run into any problems with them :?: :?:
Are they as easy as just bolting in :?: :?:

Yes and no. They push the fans backwards and if you have big sway bars then things get very close...

Haha, they are good fun. :)

In regards to the cooling benefit of going aluminium, it would definitely be much more efficient cooling, by how much, it really depends... I'd say for your average 50+mm core, you'd look at anywhere between a 20-30% increase. If you're running an N/A, aren't overheating and aren't tracking it every weekend, you could probably go without though.

Fun fact: copper is a substantially better heat conductor than aluminium. Aluminium's real benefit only comes from having a thicker core with larger cooling tubes and more fins combined with its light weight.

Yes copper is a better cooler, it's also much harder to come by and substantially heavier.

The aluminium radiators are brilliant, I have one, and not one movement whilst drifting.

Thermostat stayed perfect.

If I'm getting somewhat of a reasonable improvement, even if it's a little less efficient than a copper option yet costs much less and is local, then that's alright by me. I'll get an intercooler too (only if need be to ensure oil temperatures remain level). Might upgrade the thermostat to one that opens slightly earlier too, just for peace of mind.

Getting my custom roll bar fabricated next Wednesday, so it's coming together

Aluminium will be a great replacement for any ageing standard radiator so it'll do you just fine. Would highly recommend havign the rest of the cooling system checked while you're at it; see Daniel for the shit he went through getting his leaks and corrosion issues sorted.

Yup, not sure if the BP engines have similar issues but it's seemingly pretty common for the hose fittings off the thermostat housing and water pump inlet to corrode right through.

Firstly, no, I didn't wash my car at Wash World, no need to fret.

Was shooting on 800 ISO ffs. Everything came out dark and blurry, but I could rescue these ones somewhat anyway - will give her a good detail tomorrow... dem swirls:

Looks very tidy!

What were you using to take the photos? Looks like you were using quite a small aperture, judging by the wide depth of field/area of the photo in focus. Larger aperture with the same ISO would reduce your shutter times :)

Heh, thanks guys! It's a '99 so quite a few years off brand new, but not quite 22,000km on her. I've put about 6,000km on her since last December and only the original owner before me. Can see about an interior picture, but I think I posted one up somewhere around the forum some time ago. Can't seem to find it now though!

You may have seen me out and about, I'm city based and go out a bit here and there. There's another red one I've seen in the city with I think S2O4... something. Saw S2O36 a couple of weeks ago also. The plates were available to the first hundred New Zealand-new S2000s when they were first sold here :)
