Another good idea... I can actually get it up from Christchurch w/my mates work, Metro Glass for free - my issue is getting it from the sticks 500kms to the Metropolis of Christchurch, my home town undamaged
2LO2C had another awesome idea, call up Juicy, Kea, Maui et al see if they need any Campers re-located northward.

I guess without being there I can't comment but assume the shape of the Miata HT and the low profile racks aren't conducive to a good relationship...
He's no fool and has strapped all ridiculous assortments of crap to cars before.
Ahhh yeah you did say he was down there for a race, my father-in-law has done a cpl of Ironman events and damm those bikes are expensive! Just a set of rims would be worth more than your HT!
If it did get damaged by a shipping company wouldn't they be liable to fix it? It would be insured? I'm sure you have photos of it to prove pre-delivery condition.
It all depends on what your time is worth mate, flying down and driving back etc is a lot of effort/time compared to getting it delivered.
I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Right - just to tidy this all up... I decided to buy an MX5 down there so arranged to purchase the Silver 1994 NA8 that you see beneath in Cromwell which is very near Alexandra.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =550443206
I flew down, hitched to Cromwell w/the cash, the car was described as 'IN MINT CONDITION' by the seller - in fact the car is in extremely poor condition so I was understandably a bit miffed...
No matter, next morning I bought a 1989 Datsun Pickup, which was accurately described, I popped the HT in its boot, watched my Dad race Wanaka Ironman where he won his age group again (has won every singly year) - next 2 days I drove home... popped the Datsun on Trademe and sold it in 19 hours.
I consider the end result a 'win' and want to say cheers again to the NZ MX5 Community for all the help advice & support etc, very welcome!

Trade-spec ha ha
Actually really easy to drive... 5sp diesel and super cushy, only problem was the radio didn't work but luckily I had taken my Nano.
2LOW2C fixed the radio in a jiffy, and the new owner took it back down country last week fully booming.
