I personally use Magnatec, normally cant afford mobil one, but there is
no substitute for quality. i owe it to my car to look after it.
and very good previous comments about oil levels, i agree not enough oil
is a problem as well.
A good indication of your oil quality will be to look at the dipstick,
if the oil is black, dark black that is , the previous owner may have
told fibs(dark black indicates contaminated oil full of carbon), also
the oil sticker may be inside the windscreen just below the wof sticker,
which should say what type of oil was installed and the date.

Interesting comment Lou,
Im interested to know why you suggest a genuine mazda filter,in my
experience i would consider the correct filter from repco etc to be just
the same but without the added expense of "genuine " stamped onto the
price.

I've seen tests of various filters in the US. The genuine Mazda unit rated as
good as the best aftermarket ones, eg. Pure 1, Mobil 1, but those are not
available here. Many others, FRAM, WIX, etc were not well regarded.
