Info on the mx5 after the targa. Ross.
Everyone wants to know the numbers, so here are some interesting
statistics about the 2003 event for RedMX5
8100 RPM, the maximum revolutions per minute reached, shame really as the
rev limiter was set for 7400, and had failed!
6700 RPM, the average engine revs during Special Stages (race stages)
2400 hits on the RedMX5 web site during the 5 days of the race
841 hours of effort, in build and competition of Targa NZ, that is 105
days!
600 litres of fuel in the MX5, that was up to 160 litres of 100 RON per
day. Plus another 240 litres in the service vehicle.
270 people asking have you got a roof for that?
216 hours taken off work by the team to compete
171 KPH max speed on back straight at Pukekohoe
105 KPH average speed in one road Special Stage
50% the average percentage of new starters in Targa NZ that finish
40 times one of us said "ops sorry"
25 people who said, geez, you were lucky in the accident!
"999 are you OK?" joke about 30 times (i.e. the car is upside down)
"666 no not sex sex sex" joke about 15 times
20 times we said "ouch that would of hurt"
35 cars that failed to finish due to mechanical failure
18 cars destroyed in the five day event
10 Sponsors who supported us in the attempt, Vodafone, Brio, Dimension
Data, Holly, Aculab, Genesys, Citrix, Nice, OpenWave, HP
8 Team members and people who helped get us to the finish. Adam, Dave,

7 times we said "What went through that fence?"

5 car washes with no roof and a fire hose!

3 radiators (the original, the race, and the replacement), 1 new
suspension arm, 1 new radiator fan, 1 new set of driving light
3 exhaust welds to make it through
3 major intercom failures
2 off course excursions, one was the big one, and the other at Pukekohoe
race way
1 car, and we brought it home!
