1.8 brakes

Post by mx5mike » Wed Oct 29, 2003 10:14 pm

I have a 1.8 upgrade for my 1.6 MX-5 It's not fitted yet.

You need the rotors, calipers (rears are the same), and the brackets.

I'm thinking about getting these brake kits from the USA

You can reuse the 1.6 calipers but they get swapped to the opposite
side, as Lou says. The calliper mounts can't be used with the 1.8 setup
so you need to buy the 1.8 mounts (cost me about $300 a pair new from
Mazda about 1 = years ago). I used DBA cross drilled and slotted rotors
and EBC Green pads. I can recommend the rotors (though very pricey) but
the EBC pads are nothing special and have now developed an annoying
squeek.

Ooops, I meant to say that the mounts get swapped from side to side.
Not the callipers.

You are best to fit the 1.8 callipers as well as they take a bigger pad.If not you dont really gain anything.Ross.

It's always nice to hear what Lou has to say, but I have now received the
same message 10 times! I have had Matt & Sarah's message 5 times.

Do we have a problem with the mail system?

Regards

Eric
