Mazda (sorry is that ford) NZ prices

Post by Bryce Pearce » Tue Sep 02, 2003 9:56 pm

I have just purchased a 1989 Roadster. It needed a new radio surround and
gearshift boots - apparently this is common. Went to the local Mazda dealer
to get a price - and nearly choked. $155 for the boots and $172 for the
surround. Is this normal pricing for MX5 parts? Are there cheaper places to
get these bits from as these prices a crazy considering a Mazda dealer in
the USA lists the boot set for just over $30 USD?

If you mean the rubber boot under the centre consul, I boughht one from the
Mazda Dealer in Melbourne last year for $34Aust and they also quoted $80Afor
the radio surround. You could check out Ross Campbell on www.mx5mart.co.nz
as he has a lot of parts.

Not wanting to do Ross out of a sale, there is also a crowd in Te Aro,
Wellington called Le Mans Fabrics, who make leather boots for MX5 Gear
shifts. I have not bought one myself, but I did order a "wind blocker" from
them, (at 3.00 PM yesterday and it turned up on my desk in Auckland at 8.30
this morning) their product looks good and you can't fault the service

Eric, can you tell me more about the wind blocker? Does it fit the NA model?
Do Le Mans Fabrics have a website - haven't tracked one down.

This is basically a sheet of fabric which elastics (is there such a word)
on to the rear of the seats and stretches between the two seats, it stops
the wind freezing your left lug-hole off when you have the top down. I
believe that the later NB MX5s actually have a similar, fold down, device as
standard. Certainly my friend's 98 NB has one and his works well

The cost was $125+ GST

The address is "le.mans@xtra.co.nz" and the site is
www.lemansoriginalfabrics.com click on "soft tops" then "Japanese" then
"Mazda", they seem to do some nice stuff.

I fitted the "Wind Blocker last night, what turned up was actually a little
different, and better, than what is on the web. It is a nicely made panel of
black fabric, (to match the hood, other colours are available) and has a
clear perspex panel for rear vision.
Even though it was a rough night, I went for a little blast with the lid
down, and I have to report a complete success, it improves cabin comfort
exponentially, when, as I am, you are not in the first flush of youth!
