My impression is that people pay a lot of attention to mileage. If I was
buying another MX knowing what I know know (as opposed to when I bought mine)
I would definately buy an older NA with high miles, say 160,000 k or so,
because they're cheap. The average buyer is probably going to be unwilling to
pay a premium for all the extra work you have done on the car, even if the end
result is that it is more stable, better brakes etc. With the hard top and
all you might get about $7,500-$8,500. I think you would be better waiting
for the 'right ' buyer who wants a sorted high performance MX, and who should
be willing to pay the cost you ask given what it would no doubt cost to do it
all from scratch. There seem to be plenty of cars for sale at the moment and
only the 'bargain' priced ones seem to disappear off the club list. I had
little interest in my '93 Black/ red interior, only offer was for $5,200!
Good excuse to keep it...

Yes I agree around $7.000 without driving and a good inspection would be current value, I paid 8000 for a very good 90 red eunos with 98.000 km, Phil I woulda bought your'e 93 black and red in a heartbeat, being the good Canterbury family we are.

Hi Lou,
I agree with Phil to a degree.
There are a lot of Jap MX5's coming in with "good bits" already on them, there
are guys like Ross selling the best bits off broken MX's, your good bits
become second hand good bits, and lower there value.
Hold hard, go on line to trade me, they have just started a "car" division,
find other options to promote your car, I personally wouldn't pull the good
bits off.
I would buy your car, or one from Ross, with all the good bits if I could
afford it, before I would buy the bits and add them. For someone like me,
buying the bits is the first step, I don't have the nous or facilities to do
it myself, so I would have to pay someone to do it for me. If was going to go
to that type of expense I would purchase a car like yours, its done, it works,
and, in the long run, its the cheaper option.
I have investigated doing it myself, and I just cant afford it, I don't have
the tools, I don't have the experience, and I don't have a workshop, but I do
want a quick, reliable, snorting MX, so what are my choices?
Hold on to it if you can, a buyer will come along, if you cant wait do the
sums, what is your high K's MX worth minus the bits you can remove?
What are your good bits worth second hand? (and how long will it take to
sell)
Add the two together what do you get? This is your true bottom line.

Now what is it worth as it is with all the good bits still on it, is it worth
more?

The sum of the whole will always be worth more than the sum of the individual
parts.

Now I'm getting excited...what's this MX got, and how much do you want for
it?
Trade my red MX as part payment??
All the best, give me a min and I'll go and get the trade me URL for you.

(I think they charge $20 for the add, one off fee)

Hope this helps,
Biff

Lou as a fellow 89er, and one that only paid $3000.00 for it, I know when I
was looking around I was looking for an early original that didn't have to
look smart but had to be straight, the prices were mostly around the $6500 -
8500 depending on km's and condition, the one thing that I needed to be sure
about was that it hadn't been trashed around the street and I think that when
people see a great little car like ours modified to the same standard of yours
they automatically think speed and racing, how reliable is it? will it give me
trouble being so modified? what if it breaks down, how much will it cost to
fix? etc etc etc.
I think that if you can afford to hang onto it, it will sell but if that bike
you ordered is about to arrive and it needs paying for then sell the bits and
the car separately to lessen the load. There is always someone out there with
a 5 who will buy the add-on's, I am one of them. You don't have any headers do
you?

Good luck
Dave.

Thanks to all, your replies tend to confirm my thinking. I'm delaying the new
bike for now and have the MX advertised in various areas. I'm not keen on a
trade, but I won't discount it completely. I'm happy to talk about it. Or, if
someone is keen, I'll take a holding deposit while they sell their car. ( I
used to sell real estate, you see.) As I said before though, only the gearbox,
wheel bearings, rear discs, steering rack and body itself have done
200,000km's. Everything else is less than 100,000km and because I've done all
the set - up work, sorting out the weak points etc. It's now just like running
a standard car. I know these things are irrelevant to many people, but I'll
wait a while longer for that rare buyer before I decide on selling the bits
separately.
Thanks
Lou
