Horn...What horn?

Post by Michael Donovan » Sat Aug 02, 2003 5:53 pm

My horn has stopped working, last time it did this it was a 15 amp fuse near
the right hand (drivers) kick panel. This time I have checked all the fuses
there, and also those in the fuse box in the right hand side of the engine
bay but they all seem fine. Does anyone have any ideas why it's not working?
Thanks for any advise.
Mike

Good news:
They changed the barings, machined the flywheel, etc etc. The rattle is gone and the car feels far, far better to drive.

The Bad news: $1835 to fix it all.
A bl**dy expensive rattle - oh well - I plan on keeping this one.

It goes to show that the likes of Autosure warrenties can be a great help when buying a car iro 14 years old - just make sure that the car you buy fits their 'rules' ie (I think) less than 100k.

On the other upgrade front. Repco have some 4" 100w speakers on sale at @$20 per set. I replaced the headreast speakers this weekend the it really is an improvement on the standard speakers.

You could try gently prising the horn button off your
wheel and removing the connector to it. Short the
connector to the steering wheel and see if your horn
works, if it does then its your horn button,if not
then youll nedd to check for voltage at your horn.

Horn...What horn?

Thanks Glen
Hoping for the best... I checked the horn O.K.
I then found the relay and tested for 12 volts to energise O.K.
Problem: no Earth or ground getting to the relay when the horn is pressed.
Brought a Steering wheel puller and after I got the wheel off , the wire
from the base of the wheeel had come away from the back side of the circular
ring that rides against a rounded brass pin it is soldered to( as the wheel
is turned during steering the pin maintains contact with circular ring
providing the ground potential from the horn switch back via the pin to the
relay.. So resoldered the wire and now it's working o.k.
Cheers
