Tyres and speeding tickets...

Post by Martin Harms » Wed Jul 30, 2003 10:22 am

I am on my second set of Dunlop 901. Together with new shock absobers
and the front and rear lower braces my '90 NZ new handles better than
when it was new. Dry and wet.
Only thing the tyres don't last very long. 27000 km on the first set.
But well worth it for the amount of fun they put back in the car.

Lou, I believe if you admit to speeding 120 km/h you get an instant
fine. There will be a court hearing only if you do NOT admit to
anything. And that only if they see a reasonable chance. If you prove to
be "difficult' they go for an "easier" speeder 'cause the cost of the
court hearing is higher than the proceeds from the fine. Note that the
cheque for the speeding tickets is to be made out to: "the NZ Police",
not the LTSA, the courts, government or some such thing.
All this just my personal opinion.

Even if you admit the offence to the cop, you still have the right to defend
the matter in court. If you choose that right it will invariably result in a
court summons, not a withdrawal of the charge, years as a cop taught me this.
The police infringement section processes instant fine payments, the courts
process fines resulting from court hearings and they all end up in Govt
coffers.
