Power antenna

Post by Bill Rehm » Sun Jun 29, 2003 3:11 pm

Hi all

My power antenna on my 91 BRG went up and now isn't going down anymore. I
can here the motor inside working but not the antenna itself. Is this just
a antenna replacement problem or is the whole thing (which I believe is
costly ) stuffed?

All suggestions appreciated.

Regards
Bill

Hi Bill, contact Dan at autoway.services@xtra.co.nz ph (07)8475484 as I
know he has replaced the plastic cable inside several as they have a
tendency to strip teeth.

Remove the thing (if the ant. is up you'll probably have to bend it a bit and
straighten again later). Take apart and clean the drain hole(S) and works.
Scrape out the rust, paint and dose with crc or wd40. Should then work again.
Mine does. If the nylon core is broke then you are probably stuffed.

Bill, Mazda sells the antenna and white toothed cable for around $70.
John Andrew Mazda on Great North road had them in stock a few weeks
ago. They've probably still got some. Chic On Sun, 29 Jun 2003 18:27:34

Chic, do I read that right, ie complete power antenna for $70? Mine goes up
but not all the way down as has obviously been bent near the base at some
stage...
Saw Morven in her mx on Balmoral rd, nice colour combo, in fact I mistook the
car for the dark blue/tan interior car that lives a few doors up (Marsden
Ave), but her number plate is fairly disctictive!

Phil, not the whole thing, just the shiny metal bit that goes up and
down plus the cable that makes it do that.i.e. Not the motor. Sounds like
it would fix your problem though. Chic On Sun, 29 Jun 2003 22:55:01

I think indeed the theory would say that the shiny metal bit would have fixed
my problem, and I did buy one today, ($65 with club discount) but
unfortunately I think I destroyed some important little pieces of the old
aerial in dismantling it. Whoops. Any local assistance in perhaps
resurrecting the whole thing would be appreciated, can travel Auckland
central. Off list email - p.mca@xtra.co.nz
