Rear brake calliper problems

Post by Mikkels » Sun Jun 22, 2003 6:59 pm

Hi Guys

Thanks for the feedback on the brakes. I ended up getting a replacement
calliper from Ross. The important difference was that the adjuster
worked and the area where the adjuster is situated in the calliper was
dry. Mine was full of brake fluid and the adjuster was so stiff I ended
up stripping the teeth off the geared adjuster while trying to get the
thing to work. The piston was fine in my calliper so I will keep all of
the old bits in case I end up with a corroded calliper in the future.

I will replace all of the fluid in my system as a maintenance procedure.
Anybody got a good reference to this process?

It's easiest to do with 2 people, one pumps the brakes and keeps the reservoir
topped up, the other opens the bleed nipples. Attach a clear hose to the left
rear nipple, run the other end into a jar with about 20 mm of fluid in the
bottom. Open the nipple and pump approx 300 mil of fluid through to flush the
system. Close this nipple, then do the right rear, left front, right front in
sequence. You'll need less fluid to flush the front lines.
