re[4]: Injector sizes

Post by Mathew » Tue May 06, 2003 1:50 pm

I'm still keeping it at under 7psi, but I still have no form of ignition timing/knock controls so am running timing at 7deg. I thought I'd add a LINK and sort it all out in one go, but by the time I've added in all the extra costs (injectors, knock control mic, refabrication of air intake etc) its well and truly blown my budget. I think my alternative will be the Bipes unit, + maybe a knock link and a new nose cone, which will still leave me well short of the cost of the miataLINK (which I'm sure will be more agreeable to wifey).

I'd go for the Bipes in terms of bang for the buck. Especially at low boost.
Although, are you sure you need bigger injectors with a link when running
7psi?

Glenn, The bigger injectors were only going to be used if I decided on a LINK (I'm pretty sure now that I'll get the Bipes instead). I know about using bigger injectors on a standard computer as my car was imported with 1.8L injectors (which I believe are 230cc) and it ran like crap. I already have the upgraded fuel pump and AFPR (cartech type I think). I have been posting questions on the Sebringmiata email list as well, so between the two lists I think I've now got reasonable answers to all my questions. Have you already purchased the Bipes unit from roadsterperformance.com? if you have, how much did it all cost once it was in the country? Last time I checked it out they were only shipping to US addresses - did you use toship.com (or whatever its called). If you haven't ordered it yet we could order two at once and save quite a bit on postage.

I am running around 7psi boost using two additional standard 1600
injectors mounted just downstream of the throttle body.
Admittedly I am also running a full Link system with knock sensor etc
but power and reliabilty are fine.
Using extra injectors (as opposed to using larger injectors) helps to
reduce the charge temperatures which reduces the risk of detonation. Ths
may be a cheaper option for you depending on whether you can get the
mounting bosses welded on at an economic price.

Yup if your sticking to 7psi then using your standard
injectors and a 50 psi base pressure is the way to
go.(a cartec afpr looks like a space ship as opposed
to a vortec which is "flat" i think the supercharger
kits had cartecs on them any how.)I havent bought the
afpr or bipes yet. i just bought a house so things are
TIGHT for the next month or so. Id been keen as for a
bipes group buy in about 2 months time though!! Maybe
if we got a few more we could get an even better
price. Not sure if theyll send to here, ill email them
and find out.
