Minties Moment 2

Post by Simon Lord » Fri Feb 14, 2003 11:54 am

Hmm.

Have to admit it's not just the female of the species. Yesterday being a
bright sunny day I thought I'd enjoy the top-down experience when I went to
South Auckland to give a seminar. In a bit of a rush I pack my briefcase,
put it in the boot, go back into house for something. Come back, no car
keys. Guess where?

Dash up to home office to pick up spare key. Spare, I discover, is a spare
remote for the alarm/central locking, but not an actual physical key. Centre
console with boot release locked. Time now several minutes past when I
should have left. I have another car but the briefcase contains my only set
of seminar notes and slides and they aren't on the computer. Get creative,
Simon. Find very long screwdriver. Spend ten minutes inserting screwdriver
into centre console trying to get end to catch on boot release lever without
breaking lock. Eventually - "click" - boot opens. Dash round to boot. Remove
briefcase. Look for keys and discover they aren't in boot after all. Shout
rude word very loudly, pile stuff into Subaru, set off late, arrive 30
seconds before I am due to be there. I thrive on deadlines, I tell them -
and myself.

Come back home after seminar and realise that I have now put the spare
remote down somewhere I can't find it either. Decide to start all over again
later - much later.

Combined efforts of wife and son find the original key in her office, where
I left them when? Swear to get spare key cut this morning.

Today: Do school run in Subaru, remembering to take MX5 key with me. Get
new key cut on way back. Test it in MX5, it works. Bring it into house,
label it. Go to put it in safe place, remember I haven't yet found the spare
remote which should be with it. Go back to garage and spend fruitless ten
minutes looking for spare remote. Give up. As I am leaving the garage, find
spare remote on shelf by door. Come back into house, ready to unite spare
remote and spare key in a safe place.

Now - where have I put the bloody spare key I had cut this morning???

Is there a doctor on the list?

Simon; first thing I do when I get a new car is to get a spare key cut and
fix it under the bonnet somewhere. No good having a spare key at home if
you lose them 5 hours drive from home. Ross.
