How was the Taupo track-day?

Sadly, I couldnt make it last weekend, and I'm a bit surprised no-ones come
on here and raved about how much fun it was...

I presume it went ahead? Was the weather OK? Hopefully no incidents?

I was wondering too. Would like to attend but too expensive from the South
Island. Anybody know if the people that have cars fitted with outrigger
wheels for skid training are still operating? I did a course with them a few
years ago. Telecom, who I worked for at the time, put all their techs who
did a lot of driving through it. Great fun and a great way to learn how to
control a car in safe conditions. I think it would be worhwhile for a group
to get together and arrange something with them. Mightn't be cheap, but very
worthwhile.
Be aware that the Marlborough has its monthly run this coming Sunday, so it
will rain. Just a warning if you planned a nice top down run this weekend!
Better go out today. Lovely day here in Blenheim.

How was the Taupo track day?

Post by Daniel Shek » Thu Feb 06, 2003 1:58 pm

Greetings,

It was my first track day and I say it was amazing. The weather was
gorgous. There were about 50-60 cars. A mix of MK1 and MK2. Most of
them are original but there were a few modified ones too. I liked the
number 53 red MK1 with roll cage. (I think he is the owner of
mx5mart) We splited into four groups. The first two groups did some
runs on the track in the morning while the other two groups did some
gymkana. The gymkana was timed and the fastest driver got some
prizes. I was in the forth group so I did the track in the afternoon.
There were instructors available to show you some basic techniques
like the best line to approach a corner and how to correct the car if
it slides (not by too much).

(Just a brief description of the day)

btw, do you guys know where is the best place to auction/sell off my
personalised plate "H4CK3R"?

Regards,
Daniel

I believe 57 cars. I couldn't make it either unfortunately. Possible the
biggest MX5 turnout in NZ ever? I'm told it went really well & I know the
club organised some pretty awesome prizes...

Anyone have photos from the day? I'll post them on the club site.

Fletch not make a track day??? Must be a first. Anyone would think he had
a baby or something... ;)
