Headrest speakers...

Post by Bill Rehm » Mon Dec 13, 2004 8:28 pm

To Gazza and others intending to install new headrest speakers with
enclosures:

Well after taking some measurements, sacrificing one extra plastic tub I
had by shortening its height, removing its wider rim, the shortening it
again, I found because of a narrowing of the headrest speaker pocket
towards its base, caused by the metal frame under the foam (probably
designed that way to hold the rectangle speakers in place) means I CAN
NOT implement my enclosure idea without cutting half the vertical sides
out of the round tubs, which probably means I lose most if not all the
resonance effect I was hoping to gain with the tubs. The speakers are
3.5 inch Clarions like Carl's and appear to sit perfectly well without
any securing what so ever.

So . back to the no-enclosure drawing board!!!

Headrest speakers...

Post by poison » Mon Dec 13, 2004 10:00 pm

Hi Bill

I found much the same, my enclosures are very small, which in itself does not
help sound quality, but without the enclosures they distort at volume, the
enclosure may kill some of the bass but it allows better volume. I had thought
of using the foam hole as an enclosure and just sealing off the front with
some ply (or something) with the speaker hole cut in it. But once my speakers
were in and sounding fairly good I lost momentum for further experimentation.

If you need help wiring them feel free to pop over one night. I can email you
my mobile number if you want. I'm only free weeknights as I'm dealing with a
deceased estate out of town on the weekends just now.

Cheers

Headrest speakers...

Hey Mr G

Great minds think alike!

I was thinking about doing the same thing, in the area where the foam is
missing where the OEM speaker casing is screwed into the headrest.
However I have no idea what material to use and it might be difficult to
do for such a small (1.5cm x 1.5cm x 3cm) area. Another idea was to
"spray" something on the walls and base of the foam around the area of
the speaker to reduce its porous nature.

I'm open to any other creative (aka "warped") others might have. For
example: "cutting up the plastic housing to the OEM speakers and screw
them in place to take up some of the "airspace".

PS. Thanks for the offer for assistance, email me (directly) your cell #

Bill

how old is your oxygen sensor?

Alternatively your airflow meter can be 'recalibrated' - I think Don
did some tinkering in this area ..?
