Replacement Seatbelts?

Post by Fletch » Wed Dec 01, 2004 6:44 pm

I just got a WOF, and they noted that they'd pass my seat-belts this time,
but that they were becoming sun-bleached and weakened/frayed, and couldn't
continue to pass them in the future... I guess 15 years of NZ UV-rays will
do that...

I'd already noted this condition a year or two back, so wasn't at all
surprised, (well, surprised it hadn't been picked up on earlier...).

I was just wondering if any other MX-5ers had to do the same, how much
it cost, and where? (I'm in Auckland)

I also recall hearing a little while ago that a new style of retractor belt
called a webbing-grabber was the desired (required?) item, if available for
your make/model, as they grab harder and sooner than the old inertia-reel
belts... Anyone know if a suitable item is available for an MX-5?

I understand that nearly all fresh imports get new belts to meet NZ
standards, so I'm sure there's a plethora of suitable aftermarket companies?
Maybe Mazda OEM is a good option for safety equipment?

I'm not made of money, but it strikes me that safety items are not
necessarily the best place to go bargain hunting?

Comments?

Cheers,

Fletch.

Replacement Seatbelts?

Hi Fletch,

We have a crowd called "Seat Belt Services" just down the road from my
office in Penrose. They specialise in re-fitting imports, I'll have a chat
with them tomorrow and report back here, (probably not until Friday, company
"do" tomorrow night)

Hi Fletch, will forward your email onto Don at Autoway Services and get his
comments on price and if you can fit them yourself.
