Sway bars on a 1600 NA

HI all

I've been told that I can fit later model sway bars to my 1989. NA 1600cc, as
the later model ones are thicker. Has anyone done this? and if so what model
should I be looking for? 1800cc or from a certain year.

I wasn't going to spend money on suspension but... just a little... then maybe
new springs and Koni's or something adjustable...
