Battery replacement

Hi - we recently moved to Auckland, and our MX5 ended up at the wrong
end of a tandem garage, with another car parked outside. After 3 months
stuck in there, it was time to take it for a WOF, but the battery would
not fire the motor, or charge up, so finally got a new one. Fitted it,
but nothing at all. Suspect the main fuse has gone, but that does not
want to pop out for inspection. Is there a trick to removing this? Is
there anything I have overlooked in changing the battery? (Battery is a
genuine replacement!)
