Loch Stewart cold air induction system

Post by David & Judy Kerr » Tue Jun 22, 2004 11:21 pm

I have over the last couple of weeks been talking with Loch Stewart in
Australia about his cold air induction system and I must tell you I am
impressed. The amount of work that both him and his son has put into it's
development is huge. The performance gains that he is getting with this unit
and a free flowing exhaust system is averaging 15-18 HP, not bad for a $370.00
outlay. I am getting one of these units over and having an exhaust system made
locally as it is not cost effective to purchase one of his because of the
forbidden cost of freight.
If anyone else is interested in one of these units let me know, if we can get
enough interested I could possibly get the cost reduced, it's worth a go.

I have fitted one of these cold air boxes. It requires a rather large hole to
be cut in the firewall so I bought a proper hole-saw to do the job. I am happy
to loan it out if anyone wants to do the same. I could also offer suggestions
based on what I found during my insallation. I am in Auckland by the way.

David the mags have been good. I have just about finished with them.
Loch isn't very well at this time, he has cancer. I spent about an hour on the
phone with him the other day having general chit chat but he said that there
was no difficulty in fitting this system. How much did your hole saw cost and
where did you pick it up? What were the issues if any?

I bought the saw and the cenre drill mandrill from Mastertrade using a company
account. From memory I think that took the prcie from around $70 to around
$45. The $10 set that I had from Mite 10 was only goos enough to scrape the
paint.
Issues:
i) I made the hole oversize to Loch's specifications so
that I could line the edge with rubber channel that I bought from Para
Rubber.
ii) You may need to experiment with positioning BEFORE you
trim the length of the cold-air box if you want to also fit a tower support
brace.Even then I am not sure that the two can be used together. I am
currently trying to source a brace with a steeper angle - only for the reaon
that I had the brace and I want to re-use it - it might shave = a second off
my trip to work.

That is about all that I can think of. I think that you will be very satisfied
with the box once you have it installed.

David

David does your induction system take the cone filter or the panel filter? the
new ones take the cone filter.

I had a look at the hole-saw that I used and it was 79mm (3 1/8").
