Soft top slash repairs

Post by drfeelgood » Fri May 14, 2004 9:15 am

Hello,

Some nice fellow slashed a hole in my soft top (my car
was parked in Grey Lynn) for no obvious reason except to let the rain in.
It's a nice neat, right-angled cut, just above the driver's seat.
My soft top is reasonably new so I don't want to replace it.
Can it be repaired easily, and if so has anyone got a recommendation of
where? I had a look through the archives, and Al's upholsterers was
one recommendation.

Cheers,
R.

Same thing happened to me - Went to Als he said that it could be fixed,
but it wont be pretty. Thus we decided to pay for a new top.

On the Bright side Als are helpful, professional and do a fantastic job.

Soft top slash repairs

You might want to ring Don at Autoway Services in Hamilton and ask him
who he uses (see TopDown for number). I saw a car in his workshop that
had been slashed and repaired. From memory the slash was in the middle
of the fabric, on the drivers side next to the rear window, and the
repair job was much better than I expected. It was hard to notice from a
metre away. I would get it repaired first, rather than replace it. If
you are not satisfied with the fix you could always replace it after
that. I'm sure someone like Ross @ Mx5mart would give you a few dollars
for the repaired top, more than what it would have cost for the repair anyway.
Someone who sells replacement tops will always tell you a whole new one
is a better option, nice guy or not.

Ps- I assume it's not an insurance job. If it is just get a new one.
