cambelt $

Post by Nick Wright » Sun May 02, 2004 6:52 pm

Hi,

I'm still looking for my first MX5, so I have another $$$? question...

The owners of several cars I have looked at are unable to say whether the
cambelts have been replaced or not (all early 100kms) - I'm just wondering
roughly how much it costs to have one replaced (so I can factor it into my
budget)?

Thanks

Nick

ps - any buying tips appreciated!

Depending on where you live, as the main centres seem to be more expensive, it
could cost you anywhere from $150.00 to over $200.00. Because the water pump
is behind the cambelt covers and necessitates the taking off of the cambelt to
replace it, it is a wise move to replace the water pump at the same time. I
think these cost $30-40.00.

Cheers,
Dave.

I have had cambelts done on both 1.6 and 1.8 cars. If the car has done around
the 100k or is 10 yrs or older you should have the belt done and it would pay
to have the tension rollers done at the same time. The cam cover will also
need a new gasket. Both mine have cost around the $450 mark.
