I have an MX5, participate here from time to time answering questions when I
can.
In the past (about a year ago) I attended one of the MX5 club organised
drives, which was great as I got to meet a number of people which has helped
fuel my passion for the MX5.
At present I am not a member, as I belong to a large number of clubs
including two car clubs already. Also almost every event over the past year
has clashed with a motor sport event that I was racing in so I have not even
been able to attend any events.
Is it possible for the club to consider having a small ($5 or so additional)
charge for non members to join in on club events, rather than the recent
rejection I received, because I am not a financial member when I enquired if
I could participate.
I know most clubs want to provide more for their members and give incentives
for people to join, however I would like you to consider that inviting
non-members to events may help spread the word and drive up membership
rather than put people off being members.
Please consider that some people would like from time to time get together
with the club but for some reason are not members and that if your local
co-ordinators reject them you may miss out on gaining them as members in the
future, your members may also not get to meet other mx5 owners etc.
So please think about your approach to non members.
Mike

hi Mike
I'm not sure whereabouts you are, but I've never
encountered this in any of the Akl events. Newbies
should be welcome to tag along, it certainly doesn't
cost anything (track days excepted though)
The more the merrier, right ?

MX5 club approach to non members.
last time I looked membership was only $40, about the cost of a tank of gas!
and you get a free magazine...
I'd be the last one to turn a "non-member" away from an event, I'd go out of
my way to invite prospective members along to see the fun, but I'm sure I'd
expect them to eventually either join as a result, or vanish never to be
seen again. There have been comments in the past about restricting the list
to members only, which I personally would regret, as I think a lot of people
end up joining because of what they've seen...
Anyone up for a survey? or do we have this information already...
On the other hand, a club can define exclusivity, membership has its rewards
etc...
