There was an article written about just this very thing (installing MANZ
cage in Mk2) in the June 2003 TopDown Mag by Simon Waymouth. He doesn't
mention who did the work, but perhaps you could ask him. He gives his
address as simonw@emsg.co.nz

Hi all,

I was looking at importing a Hard Dog SDD rollbar from the States for my car,
but apparently they're not MANZ spec, so it loks like building a rollbar
locally is the only way.

Does anyone know a good cage builder in the Auckland area who could put a MANZ
approved rollbar into a '01? Better yet, has anyone had a bar built up for
their car? I'm like to see how good a job a cage builder can do.

Cheers
John

Great! I'll fire off an email to Simon. Is there a link on the club site to
that article you mentioned on the MX5 club site? The "Top Down" mags seem to
stop at April '03.

The TopDown mags only get added to the site when time and space allows.
I don't have access to a scanner any more but I could do it the old way
and fax you a copy on Monday morning if you like . Got a fax machine
handy?

John

I got my MANZ approved roll bar (rear hoop plus bracing plus side
intrusion bars) for my NA done by Herbert Fabrications in Mairangi Bay.
They did a very neat job using TIG welding for the welds that were
easily visible and arc for the hidden bits.

You are welcome to come and have a look at it. I am in Birkenhead.

Hello all.

I am looking at buying an early 90's MX-5 or Eunos and was wondering if there is anything in particular I should be looking at when viewing these vehicles.

Kms?
Soft top condition?
Battery?
Under body?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Craig

Keith,

Any reason why you haven't put in a full cage?

Now its in do you intend to do any speed work? The Taupo Car Club's winter
series starts in late May. Last year there were two 5's racing and this year
there maybe one dual sprinting and possibly later in the season another.

Cheers,

Mark

Only for appearances sake, a full cage would give better protection but
it does make the car look rather ugly with the roof down on the road.

I will be doing the Taupo winter series. I have had the car out at a
meeting at Pukekohe last weekend for the first time but it didn't go as
fast as I had hoped. This is probably a combination of engine tuning and
the fact that I haven't raced for the last 18 months.

I am glad more cars are appearing on the track. The reason I built the
5, after racing RX7s for years, was that I couldn't see why more people
weren't racing them. They are very popular race cars in the US and
Australia.

Cheers

Keith,

Yes I agree about the appearance and that's one reason why I'm opting just
for the rear hoop etc. I'm planning to installing it around June and be out
for the July or August round at Taupo. In the meantime I'll have to sprint
our MR2. See you May 23rd at Taupo.

Cheers
