Torque settings

I notice a little oil weep from the rocker/cam shaft cover, above the
exhaust manifold. I guess that since the manifold has a cover to protect it
from oil, this is not an unusual event, however I thought I would just tighten
up the cover and if that does not work, replace the gasket.

I need to know the correct torque settings for the cam cover bolts,
preferably in ft/lbs, as my torque wrench, (not to mention it's operator)
pre-dates metrics.

Can anyone assist? (Yes, I know, I'll get a service manual next time I see
Ross)!

With the top speed thing, I've done an indicated 185kmph (top down!)... almost stock 1.8 (CAI, +14deg BDTC)... but it took a loooong time to get there - so the difference is probably that a race prepped unit gets up there a lot quicker.

From Haynes MX-5 90-97 (note some are ft-lbs, some are in-lbs)

Engine oil drain plug 22 to 30 ft-lbs
Spark plugs (to 93) 132 to 204 in-lbs
Spark plugs (94 and later) 132 to 192 in-lbs
Manual gearbox fill plug 19 to 28 ft-lbs
Manual gearbox drain plug 29 to 43 ft-lbs
Wheel lug nuts 66 to 86 ft-lbs
Timing belt tensioner bolt 27 to 38 ft-lbs
Tming belt idler pulley bolt 27 to 38 ft-lbs
Timing belt cover bolts 69 to 95 in-lbs
Valve cover bolts 43 to 78 in-lbs

To convert ft-lbs to Nm multiply by 1.355
e.g 75 ft-lbs x 1.355 = 102 Nm

so i think 43-78 in-lbs is 3.58 to 6.5 foot pounds
