Pedders Suspension Suck & my rear chasis brace still won

Post by poison » Wed Jun 09, 2004 6:10 pm

Hi

If you want a wheel alignment don't go to Pedders Suspension in Auckland, I
printed out the wheel alignment specs for them to follow (From Miq's).

I got it back with a report saying my shocks and suspension are all good, so I
asked what about the loud knock in the steering that I had specifically asked
them to check. They said there isn't one, so I showed them and they said "no
problem" with a cursory glance, the fact they missed this loud clunk makes me
doubt their credibility somewhat.

So I got home and read the alignment report... now I'm really pissed off...
they reduced the rear camber from -1.1 (pretty well spot on) and they had
adjusted it to -0.37 plus a few other things I don't understand. Essentially
the car was spot on and they f***ed it up. What a pain, I use a company car
and it was such a pain to get my Mazda into the city for a check.

Lastly I asked them to fit the rear brace before the check, they said it will
not fit (which is what I found) but some people have told me to loosen the
nuts and it will fit. I don't know what to do as it's 6mm too long and if I
move the bolts then the alignment bolts will not have enough movement to
correct the alignment again. Not sure who I trust on this one, but I am pretty
dubious about Pedders Suspension.

So if you're getting an alignment "Go somewhere else".

Try fitting the brace anyway - you're alignment is out, so what's the
worry with moving the bolts?

Then try Firestone Direct Parnell - I used them recently & they gave
fantastic service. Went right thru the wheel align specs with me & all was
done to suit my driving style.

The Pits / Pnuematico? have also had good reviews from others on the list
also.

Good luck
Graeme

Hi Gazza

We had the same problem when fitting a rear brace under the car. The holes
didn't line up. We weren't sure if it was the brace at fault, or our car, so
we took it down to a mate with an MX5, and it fitted his holes fine. So we
assumed that our car has had a prang at some stage (suspected this already!)
so the chassis is not quite straight. Anyhow, to solve the holes problem we
elongated the mounting holes on the brace with a round file - each one moving
a couple of mm - which made it fit.

Sorry to hear about your annoying alignment jobby. If you want something done
right, do it yourself! Bit expensive to buy one of those big machines,
though! :-( If it was me, I'd ring/write to Pedders and try to get a free
fix + bonus to make up for having to try to get to town again.

Good luck

Pedders Suspension Suck & my rear chasis brace still won

Thanks for that , I was recommended a guy called Peter at Marshall tyres in
Nuffield St in Newmarket. But I thought Pedders would be OK being a suspension
place. (also they got oily hand prints all over the guards... grrrr...) as
it's a major to get my car to the city.

And Hi Michael and Kate, yes I thought the same, must have had a bump in the
side but my panel beater recons no. Anyway I managed to get the brace on
myself, but had to turn the bolts a lot, I can even see the tow in on the car,
so I will have to elongate them too. But I was worried this would make the bar
useless as it would not give the same support with bigger holes... anyone any
thoughts???

Cheers

You need to rotate the bolts to let the brace fit on .It would have fitted
the other car as the bolts are then at the brace width and under
'tension'.6mm is only 3mm per side which the travel will cover. Ross.

Hi Ross

Thanks I've done that but now will they still have enough adjustment to do the
wheel alignment correctly as I can now see the rear wheels have quite a bit of
toe in.

On cars without the subframe mounting points for the bar I think you're better off with a solution like the Cannon Brace sold by Flyin Miata in the USA. Its not cheap though.
