Alarm

Post by EricW » Mon Apr 17, 2006 6:41 pm

Hi Pam,
Congratulations on displaying wonderful taste in cars!

Your alarm will not be a standard fitting, alarms were not factory fitted to
the MX5, but most common brands of alarm are well represented around NZ.

Try your local Yellow Pages under "Security" "Burglar Alarms" or Car Audio
and you will find a local supplier who will be able to identify it for you and
point you in the right direction if they can't help you directly.

Some of the older Autex alarms are hard to get bits for, so if it is one of
those, think about a new one. Then think either Mongoose or Dynatron.

Enjoy the car!

Eric

Pam, I had a Mongoose fitted to my 98 just after I got it. Hotwire in Gt Nth
Rd Kelston did the job. They may be able to help you. I'm in Massey.

Alarm

Post by Jon Addison » Tue Apr 18, 2006 8:01 am

If you buy a new alarm it pays to check first that your insurance Oks
it. They have a list of alarms which qualify for refunding your excess
if the car is pinched. I had a Mongoose immobiliser fitted and it
qualifies. The previous owner had an alarm which went off on the
street, so a council noise officer popped the bonnet and snipped the
wires to the siren! I prefer a basic immobiliser to an alarm. A pro
will take the car regardless, but at least the immobiliser slows down
the joy riders. I think the important factor is that it sets itself
automatically if the ignition is off for 30 seconds.

Turns out the alarm is a CBA 33, which i've never heard of, and the remote is a CBA 19TD2. So i'm trying around various businesses in Ak to see if i can track a remote down.

Looks like this may be the beastie.
http://www.seco-larm.com/CBA33.htm or
http://enforcer.com.tw/vehicle/cba_33.htm

I did a google and couldn't find an NZ site that had them though.

Did the simple thing, out of interest, and Googled CBA 33, turns out
that this is an "Enforcer" brand alarm, the Auckland agents being Simms
Auto Electrical, who, if memory serves me right, are on the "old" Church
St in Penrose, opposite the end of Industry Rd.
