battery vent hoses wanted

Post by DaveR » Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:16 am

Hi all

Just put a new Panasonic battery in my 90 NA yesterday to replace the
non-standard non-vented type. However, the vent hoses are missing.
Anyone got any advice on where to get some? The plastic fitting that
goes through the boot floor is still there, I just need the hose(s). I
presume there are 2 hoses that join in a T or Y adaptor before
connecting to the plastic outlet?

Thanks

Dave

There should be a plastic battery tray. The rubber hoses do go to a T
and then a single hose down to the boot floor. That's how it is on my
'90 NZ car.

I'm now curious to see just what the standard set-up of hoses and tray
looks like. Is there anyone on the list in ChCh whose car I could take
a look at, or could anyone send me a pic? I realise I can make up the
hose and do without the tray, but in one way I'd like to keep the car
original.

Cheers

Dave

Hi, Dave

For what it's worth I suggest that you do get a tray for your battery. It
has two large dimples in the bottom that locate into the metalwork & the
whole thing helps hold the battery securely in position. Ross Campbell of
MX5Mart or your local Mazda wrecker should be able to help out.

I did fabricate my own version of a tray while I had a non-standard battery
in the car - a plastic tray from Payless Plastics & a heat gun worked
wonders. Not as good as the original though.
