After market alloy wheels

Post by R LTD » Fri Mar 17, 2006 7:09 am

Hi MXers
I'm considering upgrading my wheels and have decided to stick with 15" rims
that came standard with the car. - 1995 NA
I would apreciate benefiting from the experience of fellow members who have
upgraded wheels as to what is available on the market they have found worth
buying. From my research the aim is to go for the lightest practical rim with
an offset close to the original specification of 45mm.

I have some super light Advanti CPO35 15x6.5, with 205x50x15 tyres they
weigh the same as the standard 14s with 185x60x14 tyres or within a few
grams.

They are the correct offset. 45mm. white only...

After market alloy wheels

hi,

I went with 15" wheels from a 2000 model MX5 for my 1990.

They are 15x6 fitted with 195/50 tyres.

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/600250/5

Good fit (obviously) and nice performance and aesthetic upgrade over 14's.

Regards,

Anthony.

After market alloy wheels

Post by Ian » Fri Mar 17, 2006 10:27 pm

Hi Tony..
I have aquired a set of 15 x 6 Enkei rims with Mazda Centre Caps - they have a 40mm offset and were a factory option in 2000 or thereabouts...perfect for a 195/50 x 15 Goodyear GDS3...My requirement is for 'handling/grip', ahead of looks but I recognise that this is not everyones priority...
Cheers

Thanks for the info. I have looked at the Enkei as I have heard they are an
excellent rim. However the local agent's catalogue didn't show a 15" size. Did
you get the wheels new and was it through a Mazda dealer of other supplier?

There are a few wheels available that are light...
Theres the racing Hart CPO35 which is now available in
bronze as well as white, This is about the lightest
wheel available in NZ.
Ive seen some nice wheels in 15"size at a few wheel
places like Mag and turbo and Hypertyres in Auck..
best you go take a look and take some digital scales
so you can weigh each wheel and see how much they
actualy weigh.

Dont take the word of the sales guy as they beleive
any wheel is light if its not a 20" chromie!!!

Put some Toyo T1r or GSD3's on and your away!!!

If you haven't seen it wheelweights.net is a good guide - it's done by
one of the miata.net'ers.

If those Advanti CP-035 are the same as the Racing Hart ones then
that's probably best bet for new ones, otherwise Volks or other forged
wheels would be schweeeet :D

Hope that helps.

No, I got them second hand of a private import...I have seen the same style on
a few other cars (non MX5), so I have no idea who you could try..try searching
on Enkei to find a NZ distributor?
