The Accident

Post by EricW » Fri Mar 03, 2006 4:22 pm

I sent a couple of emails to the list on this, following comments from some of
you this morning, for whatever reason they have not appeared.

The point to be noted about the photo in the Herald is that it shows her car
plainly has its nose in the right hand lane and the tail in the left hand
lane.

My car however, is wholly within the left lane and parallel with the road.

This bears out what I was saying, that she locked up, skidded and her tail
came across in front of me, leaving me nowhere to go.

I have the rest of the photographs now, they are quite frightening

By looking at the pick in the Herald, it seems clear that her end (the car I
mean) must have been elevated somehow for your car to go under it like that.
And yes, I noted the angle too. Great that you're all ok, and good luck with
the insurance company Eric.
Are you going to put the photos up somewhere so we can see them?

Hi Eric

Agree 100% with you - you've got my support on this one - and agree with
Nina's observation too.

Cheers

I think the thing was that she was braking hard and her tail was up, while I
was braking hard and my nose was down, so I went under rather than through,
probably the reason that we are still in one piece

Eric, you have my vote too. Unfortunately I am not, and I doubt no one
else on the list will be, your insurance company! :-)

Eric
from your posting yesterday I was unclear of the situation and thought that
you were following directly behind the car in front and as a consequence of
following too close ended up tail-ending the car and I had very little
sympathy. But from what you are saying today and certainly the pix seems to
support you, that is to say that you were in the left lane and the other
vehicle was in the right hand lane and slid across in front of you under
unnecessarily severe braking, that being the case, I change my mind and you
have my support.
I see from the newspaper article the woman in her defense did say that she
felt that she would have not had insufficient time to proceed across the
intersection safely.

Hi Bill

I've never met Eric personally, but I can deduce from Eric's writings that
he's a thoroughly decent chap all round. (I also share Eric and Ann's taste
for MX5's, particularly pristine RED NA's!!!).

I believe if it had been me in that same situation, I too would have become
involved, owing to the sudden and rash manoeuvre on the part of Ms Baird.
Because it's something that one cannot be reasonably asked to expect, nor
reasonably cope with, taking into account all the circumstances.

Ms Baird is liable I believe, after reviewing all the available facts.

I can't be Eric's insurance company - but I tell you this - he's got my full
moral support over the issue nonetheless.

Cheers

One would think if she was braking hard, and that happened she was going a
mite faster than she has led us to believe...either that or Diamantes are
very much cars to avoid (on the road - or getting behind their wheel :-)
Glad you escaped unharmed Eric!
Cheers Joan H ( Paekak where at the moment you wouldn't want to be topless!)

Eric

The photo in the Herald actually reminded me of a Fox Terrier sniffing
the backside of a fat old Labrador...quite apt when you think about
it...

Humour aside (maybe not very good humour) glad neither of you were hurt
