Congrats!

so uh, hook it up to the stock exhaust and keep the boost down while
it's roughly tuned... it'll still be at least twice as fun as before
:)

Did you go with an e-manage in the end?

Winter? So what. All year round it's MX5 time, roof down of course. That's
what the heater and winter woolies are for!

Grant.

Glenn,

Congratulations on getting it going. I know that a dyi turbo job takes a lot of time and research - so you must be the happiest mx5 owner in the country now that you are almost on the road.

What injectors did you end up running?

Again congratulations - and I cannot wait to see the finished product at one of the club events.

Nina: yes we did go to the airshow... we tried to
follow you in as we were only two cars behind youre
stripy beast in our family car, but you ducked down
between the hangars and we lost you!(man wasnt it HOT
down there)
Jeff: yup i did go for the emanage.. ive done some
data logging of stock configuration Vs using the 330cc
injectors then adding the RX7 afm so ive got a good
idea of where im at.
The E manage is SOOOO easy to tune and data log. Its
just like using any windows programme.
Man im itching to drive it, maybe i should take it for
a quick spin down the road, without the exhaust just
long enough to avoid... 1) noise control, 2) the
police, 3) angry neighbours with pitch forks! :)

Glenn

Well done. This is not an insubstatial project so you must
feel pretty good to have it all going. I'm wanting to do
the same to mine one day. Being a 1.8 in a 1.6 car means
the available information is much reduced. I'm very happy
with the way it is all going now with the aluminium flywheel
and a pod filter on. I have an RX7 AFM ready to go on but
am a little cautious as I do not have the flexibility of
Emanage to get the mixture right. The other "problem" I
have is lots of torque with the low 1.6 diff means she
breaks loose at the slightest encouragement and is lethal in
the wet. The diff is LSD but the 1.6 version. It is clear
that the more you do the more you need to do.

Don
Well ive been doing a big push over the last few days
on the turbo project and shes 99% done.
filled up with new oil and water, primed the fuel
line. turned the key, and...
IT RUNS!
it started first time and settled to a nice steady
idle. It is hard to beleive considering it hasnt
turned over in two months, and its running bigger
injectors and an rx7 air flow meter!!
Ive only got the down pipe on from the turbo thats
about 1 meter long, and no "exhaust" as yet, so it
was pretty noisy and smelly as all the crap burnt off
the fabricated manifold.
just have to paint the airbox and get the exhuast done
next week, then itt'l be ready for certification and
tuning and then it will be ready for... oh wait it
winter soon... DAMN!!!

No driving the MX5, me no notice ;-)
I had my media pass so I was able to park in the shade away from the common
masses hehe. You should have told the gate guard you were with me ;-)

It was hot allright, but it was well worth it. Highlight of the day for me
was seing the scale Mustang (Thunder Mustang) flying, as when it was here
last (Air museum opening) it had engine trouble and got grounded. It's NZ's
fastest experimental, goes like the clappers!
I'm just wondering what happened to the Red Checkers, as they were annouced
to be doing a display beforehand.

*Trots off to investigate*

The frankenstein bolts have a stud(not a bolt from
underneath) that holds them in... it sounds like the
stud is stuck in the car, and the head has unscrewed
from the stud???
You have to use the "double nut method" to get them
out. This is actually harder than it sounds as you
need two nuts that are not very thick so you can get
both of them on the thread.
I know. ive had to remove some before.

Oh fantastic - back to the gay comments - well done clarkson.

This review is far from his best work. I don't want to start another "gay car thread" but gee it pi$$e$ me off.

There are so many good things to say about the nc and this is best he can come up with?

if you are trying to fit some new ones.. you need to
get some studs, any engineering place will have them.
You can even get them from supacheap auto if you get
stuck, they are on the rack of packets of bolts
/screws etc.use the double nut method to fit the stud
to the car then screw the frankenstein head to the
stud.

Wow most of that article doesnt even sound as if
Jeremy wrote it...
Definitly wouldnt say it was his best work.

If you want to stop people hassling you about the
"gayness" of an mx5 then just take them for a spirited
run through some good roads.. that has shut up most of
my critics so far.
Quite simply most writers have said that the next car
that is better than a MX5 is a porsche boxster and
thats $40k more expensive.
The fact that when new not so many years ago, the MX
was the same price as a WRX,(WRX now $60k+) and now
look at the price difference. There has never been a
better time to get a new MX as its even better value
than before when you look at the new car market.
