Hey All,

I was at a car show this weekend and ran into a company (Race Brakes) that
manufactures braided stainless steel brake lines.

They all come with the appropriate markings and meet all standards that allow
you to have them on your car and still pass a WOF without having to get
certified. (yay!!!)

As you may know combined with good pads and brake fluid these can make a huge
difference to the braking abilities of your car.

Anyway - I asked if he would be able to offer discounts should I be able to
get a group buy going - and he was more than happy.

Standard cost was $85 per corner, but depending on numbers we should be able
to get this a lot cheaper.

If you are interested please email me directly.

With respect, I cannot imagine that the demand for such an item is exactly
high.

However, acknowledging that everyone's taste is different, you might try Le
Mans Fabrics, they will be in the Wellington phone book, I think they are in
Te Ngae,

They would have to make one for you, from a suitable fabric, and considering
that a standard roof is $1100+, it would probably not come cheap

personal expression. I mean, some of us even like BRG!

Hi All,
On another roof issue:
The "rubber surrounds" (is there a correct term for these?) along the
roof are perishing and are the source of my seating discomfort on wet
days. Mazda (Wellington) quoted $270 +GST per side. Is there a
supplier of these at a more reasonable cost, either in Wellington or
Nationally?
Any help greatly received.
Cheers

What did the wee car do to you to deserve that sort of treatment? :-)

Just to get a picture in my head - what colour scheme were you looking at?
Like bright Hawaii shirt sort of stuff, or just navy with white/yellow
daisies? Maybe you could get some stuff that will stick onto the vinyl and
cut out the right shapes...? It would be easier to do it to a hard-top.

Good luck

Well, I'm actually going to have MX5 resprayed hot pink, so I dont know if
the 'navy, white/yellow colour combo would suit. however I think I'll stick
with those daisies(my favourite) ;)

Well that should put the lie to the old comments that the MX5 is a
hairdresser's car. Mind you, my daughter would love it!

I can't imagine that any floral fabric would be suitable as a long-term
option. Perhaps it might be better to get a standard roof screen-printed or
stencilled? That wouldn't last forever but you would then be able to change
the flora occasionally - you know, daisies for summertime, pohutukawa for
Christmas and funereal lilies for whenever the Hurricanes are playing...

Good luck - can't wait to see the photos!

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Go to a signwriter that does the signage on the vinyl wheel covers on 4WD
vehicles. They can print and cut the vinyl to any shape you want. There is a
special grade of stick on vinyl for the job. It is more flexible than the
stuff they use for normal signs.
BRG is Gazzas favourite colour! British Racing Green.

Haha. My sister is thinking of (when she actually gets a car) getting a VW
beetle, having it sprayed hot pink, then somehow using magnetic stick ons
for the side (I am telling her to do duraseal...my friend has put black
squares all over her car of black duraseal...it hasn't peeled off and it
looks amazing! It really is a facelift for her pre 1990 starlet) of things
such as flowers, hearts, stars etc. It is really going to be a barbie car. I
was thinking of buying a pink car just to make her incredibly
jealous...except I wouldn't feel brave enough to drive a pink car...I'll
stick to my bright blue mx5.

Duraseal most likely would not work on the roof as it would get bubbles in
it when you put the roof down and up repetitively, but you could try a
section and see how it works? Then you just stick the pattern you want
behind it and stick it on, or you can print off flowers onto the duraseal on
a computer, cut them out and stick them on.

Don't knock pink cars too loudly - statistically they're the safest cars on
the road (so do you get a lower premium?)

I don't think I'd do this

Hi from UK, great list ...

Had similar experience with recent 'new' Ser 1 Mk 2 Eunos. Check your bonnet
and boot catches for evidence of wear between the (lower) retaining catch
and (upper) 'loop' - a loose fit can allow the mating faces of the loop and
catch to rub against each other causing wear and lots of noise. A dab of
grease on the inner surfaces of each stopped the noise on mine. May need to
adjust/replace if too much wear.

Can't help regarding the soft top!

Regards

Stu

I know that Robbins (the American company that makes all OEM Mazda hoods)
does make a three window hood for the MX5. Their agent in NZ is Reid &
Twiname in Auckland

I also think that LeMans in Wellington also had a picture of such a hood on
their site at one stage. www.lemansfabrics.co.nz , from memory.

I had a rattle when the roof was down and it turned out to be the roof
catches(the big ones that you latch the roof to the windscreen with). When
open they are loose and can rattle, I stuck in a small piece of foam tape on
the inside surface and got silence. Although your rattle could be anything,
most of the rattles from the front of the car seem to be inside the glovebox
for some reason unknown to mankind.
