How to Set Up a Separate MX5List Folder

Post by MadMaz » Thu Jan 19, 2006 4:29 pm

Hi Eric

I agree with you - leave the list as it is. It might seem archaic but in
many ways it's better than a forum because you don't have to log into
different threads so you don't miss anything new.

For those sometimes annoyed at the large number of incoming MX5List
messages, you can set up your Inbox so that all MX5List mail
automatically goes into it's own separate folder. That way it's not mixed
up with everything else you recieve - & avoids accidentally deleting
personal e-mails when tempted to delete all in messages in your inbox.

For those with "Outlook Express" here's how you do it:
Open Outlook and make sure your folders list is displayed.
Right click on "Local Folders"
The left click on "New Folder"
A box comes up "Create Folder". Type in "MX5List" & click "OK".
Then click on "Inbox".
Then on the task bar near the top of your screen click "Message" and
then click "Create rule from message". A box comes up "New Mail Rule".
In Panel 1, untick the box "Where the From line contains people" and instead
tick the box "Where the To line contains people".
In Panel 2, tick the box "Move it to the specified folder".
In Panel 3, click on the underlined words "contains people" and then a
"Select People" box comes up. Type in "MX5List" and click "Add" and then "OK".
Then click on the underlined words "specified folder" and a "Move" box comes
up. Click on "MX5List" and then "OK".
Finally click on "OK" and now you're all set up to divert all your incoming
MX5List mail into it's own separate folder!

This is how it works on my Outlook version anyway,

It might take a few attempts to get it all right if you're new to this
(because those who wrote Outlook sure haven't made it that obvious
to navigate), but be patient and persevere because it's a great facility you
can use to manage and sort all the incoming mail you get..

I've got several separate folders for incoming mail from several different
people/businesses & I read Grant's got a large number set up this way too.
That way all the different incoming doesn't get mixed up. Works a treat and
makes things a lot easier!

Cheers
Mark

How to Set Up a Separate MX5List Folder

On the "realbig" forum we use [NMC] (Non Miata/MX-5 Content" in the subject
field is the discussion doesn't relate to MX-5's.

That way people can set up an Outlook rule to delete any e-mails from the
list with [NMC] in the subject IF they only want to receive MX-5 related
posts.

It's a little hard to police, especially with new people joining the list,
but it means more people stay on the list because not everyone has time to
put up with all the other emails.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

How to Set Up a Separate MX5List Folder

Yes works well for us too Mark, I have my MX5 folder and G has 3 or 4 Alfa
and motorbike related lists all going to their own folders. Some folks are
using Yahoo or Hotmail & other web based emails - not sure it would work
with them...they are a real drag for email I reckon anyway, you have to open
each email to read and that takes a while. Yes -leave us with the list
please :-)
