emails vs forums

Post by Peter Vullings » Tue Jan 17, 2006 9:17 am

I also vote for forums.

1) They keep my inbox uncluttered

2) All posts are in the same place and well organized in topics

Just my 2c

Sorry I am unsure who to point this to, so could the appropriate person
let me know.

Given all the fun with the Be Advised emails, I was thinking if there were
ways to manage this a little better.

One thought that springs to mind is to move the email list into a hosted
forum. That stops people who are not interested simply not reading that
thread, and the moderators the easy ability delete a thread once it gets out
of hand. At the moment once its sent we all get the mails whether we are
interested or not.

Another advantage of the forum software is that you can keep messages
(postings and private messages) within the forum software and this prevents
people bombarding your personal accounts (unless you chose to offer your
personal contact details) Just an Idea.

Anyway if the club thinks that this is a helpful idea I will gladly
sponsor the forum, the hosting and the bandwith. Please let me know.

As an aside - I know that I contributed to the Be Advised thread by
replying with one of the emails the Bill sent me also, and looking back
probably should not have. The sad thing here is that we have lost someone
from this list over this (Ken who asked to be removed) and I dont really
think he deserved what he ended up with.

Chris

Gazza,

Everything I have read has stated that he Loch Stewart concept is the
most successful, and I know that mx5mania.com.au sell something similar.
But - I am curious what problems did you have with the WOF and how did
you get past them?

Here are a couple of links to DIY intakes,

The first one is from Glenn, a loyal club member

http://miata.cardomain.com/ride/264041/2

the second one is good but you have to pay to get the rest of the
article

http://autospeed.drive.com.au/cms/article.html?&A=0892

And a copy of the one I made, but I had issues getting a WOF since, mine
is based on the Loch Stewart model.

This is correct. I have moved from a MAF sensor on my car to a MAP so I
have an adaptor and gasket available if anyone wants it (free to a good
home)

I don't mind, perhaps we could run a forum for a while and see how it goes.
You can always post to a forum and be advised when there are replies, the
one drawback is you have to visit the forum to see what's going on as
opposed to "collecting" your email and it comes to you.
I'm prepared to "give it a go".
Cheers

emails vs forums

Howdy

Forums are not for us. Hardly have enough time to keep up with the stuff
which is coming in, let alone having to log on to a different site - and our
internet connection is sooooo slow! (High speed not available in our area)

So feel free to go forum-based, but say goodbye to Michael & I before you go -
it's been great "knowing" most of you! hee hee!

Michael says that you can arrange your Inbox so that all the list e-mails go
into a separate file - maybe this would be more useful for those of you who
don't read it all. Then you can sort it by subject thread and delete what you
are not interested in.

Better get back to work now! :-(

Ciao

I second the forums... as of right now my inbox has 68 msgs... if your look
at the forums at http://forum.miata.net/vb/index.php? it is very easy to use
and is quicker to see the things you want to see and not have to wade thru
the repeated replies and such on the e-mail system... :D

There is a handy add-on module for forums called a daily digest. Each user
can configure it individually, but what it basically does is collaborate all
the messages added to the forums in one email and send it to you at the same
time every day.

This means you only get one email with all new messages since you last
checked. You can receive it at smoko every day, and you can keep your inbox
uncluttered!

2nd clearing today. 35 e-mails; 19 viagra/software/medication e-mails;
2 personal mails which I am happy to have. - the rest the result of a
private war. Fora for me!!! Or let the list controller balcklist the
culprit(s) who started it all. Does the new "Mailwasher" allow one to
blacklist the sender rather than URL? Anyone know?

Why would you put Viagra and "software" in the same category
