steering lock

i have an alarm with immobilizer was looking at the engine start switches wondering if there is a whey to hook my steering lock into my alarm so i just blip the alarm get in and push start and cruse!

is it mechanical the steering lock could i use an actuator to work it? (i have 2 spare outputs on my alarm for this)

or a small motor i am a sparkey so got plenty of motors lying around

The steering lock is a mechanical system attached to your ignition switch, when you turn the key it pulls a block of steel out of a notch in the steering column. this could be replaced by a gear n motor but would require some specialist fabrication.

HOWEVER the consequences for it failing are scary, if it fails to work in the first place and you set off could be very interesting, if it fails in use, bye bye.

if you trust your alarm that much why not get rid of the steering lock altogether

it doesn't matter what alarm you have they can still tow yur car away or put it on the back of a truck so may as well trust it to keep stupid thieves from stealing it.

so if i was to remove the pin then i wouldn't have to worry about the steering lock at all?

Yep, lose the plunger, approx 3cm long by 1cm wide, and there is no steering lock. Take plastic off around steering column, unplug ignition wires, then very carefully with a hammer n chisel tap the shear bolts anti clockwise and the igntion barrel will come off. Put key in barrel, rotate to first aux postion and then the barrel should pull out, a pin may need pushing down. Now looking inside you should be able to see what holds the steering lock plunger in place pull it out and the plunger should fall out. Rebuild. It wont look any different but no steering lock.
