wiper washer circuit

Post by GRUVBB » Sun Sep 21, 2014 10:34 am

Went for WOF yesterday and got pulled up on non operating washer. My wipers work fine but when I pull the stalk back to wash window neither the pump operates or the wipers. Wipers work when they are selected on their own in all speeds. I suspect that this is a relay failed but not sure where to look first. Weather is bad for working on driveway so thought someone may steer me to the area quicker.
I have tried to open the wiring diagram links but they will not open on my Galaxy 3.
Basically I would like to know location of the relay for this action or if I need to test stalk switch. Cheers in advance for any suggestions.

It looks like the washer motor is powered directly from the WIPER fuse. The motor is power side switched by the stalk -- no relay to run the washer pump.

The washer motor has controlled power on the blue/orange wire, and ground on the black.

Attached are relevant wiring diagrams for a '91

The stalk cluster has some horrid litte terminals which may be in need if a clean, I had lazy park lights which came right after some attention to the contacts at the base of the
he stalk.
Also hotwire the washer pump in case the pump itself has died..

Just noticed you said neither the washer nor wipers come on when you pull stalk. It's probably not the pump, I'd be focusing on the stalk.
