help with lighting the automatic transmission selector
This has been bugging me for a while and although its only a minor annoyance its something I would like to fix if its not too hard. Basically, in the 23 years of use, the heat from the transmission has baked the paint in the little panel that shows park, drive, reverse, 2nd and 1st. This has no effect during the day but when you turn the lights on, the selector light shines though and even tho' it is still perfectly functional, it looks like balls.
how hard is it to get access to this plate? any advice on fixing it would be most welcome. thanks in advance.
Now I assume many of you have not seen an automatic transmission since you last saw your nana's car, so here's a pic to illustrate
-=edit=- FWIW I put this thread here because its mostly an issue when the light is on so I guess that makes it an electrical problem

I realize this will sound like automotive blasphemy but......
having driven manual in all my previous cars, as a daily driver its nice to drive in "easy mode" especially with around town driving.
I know Ross sells replacement selector plates but I am interested in having a go at making a new custom one with a nice decorative font purely for aesthetics (and mainly because I really enjoy doing oddball mods on my car)
