My wheel whoring (was Volk superfine mesh (was BBS RS031's)

Post by sprsta » Thu Jan 19, 2012 10:38 am

EDIT: i sold the bbs but now have a set of Rays # piece superfine mesh
will update with progress on these wheels now

i just picked up a set of BBS RS031s
they are in need of some work

Would anyone a set of center caps they would like to sell?
i only really need the waffle plate part
and if anyone has contacts for new outer lips and bolts that would be helpful
as i would like to make them a bit wider

i will update this thread as i progress with them

can get some lips out of germany for under $200 each
i really want to get some spikey bolts for them too

i will go for a set of 2.5 or 3in lips i think (gotta do some measurements first)
which will make them 8.5 or 9in wide then have to find some meaty tyres and some flares

If you haven't already, see the bloke at Brugar Engineering in Takapuna. Barrys Pt Road. He is a master of all things wheel related

I didn't think the factory BBS wheels were a 2-piece wheel?
You could contact Arrow Wheels out West regarding inners and outers.
Just becareful of the extra strain on the wheel bearings with the wider wheels...

These are not the factory Mazda BBS wheels they are a 3 piece wheel
they were available on E30 BMW M3s and some VWs and various other cars.
I have contacted most places in NZ re outer lips and the only one who said they would be able to do them was Bateman Race Cars in wellington.
but that will be more expensive than the German ones

I actually quite like the whole fluro look that's coming into car fashion at the moment. But the classics are good too.

I bought some 3 piece wheels for the race car ages ago. These were a copy of the Haliday Racing wheel but with thicker aluminium used for the inners and outers. I know the business was sold but will make inquiries as to whether they are still going.
The other thing is that I know of a good metal spinner who could make some up for you, I would just have to check if he is set up again (From Christchurch).

That's a good price too, the conversion looks to be really tidy.
