NB Torsen diff into NA

Post by brownie » Tue May 19, 2009 11:24 pm

Late night thought,
Any one actually had a go of putting a NB Torsen diff assembly into a early NA with VLSD ?,I mean changing the complete assembly,I 'm thinking all you would need is the diff assembly and carrier, axles and driveshaft.
Slighty different gear ratio but new tyre size should sort it.
Any thoughts or comments??

I have put a 4.3:1 torsen into my 90 replacing a VLSD.

Straight swap using the parts you mentioned.

Good upgrade.

Mark.....Probably both 4.3, actually. (My 94 1.8 was 4.1, but they reverted to 4.3 with the NB introduction from my understanding)
Cheers
Ian
PS Keith Tanner details the swap in his first book ie the one you sold me!!!!!!! :D

I hope I won't jinx myself here, The1.6 diff failure just seems to be a random event for early NAs..... I give mine absolute death!

Although I will tell you one thing, I am on my third gearbox now and have organized a solution that doesn't involve turning down the boost! Not cheap either. Bloomin things
Tires aren't cheap!

Won't the 1.6 VLSD have just reverted to open anyway with the Kms most are getting to (or well past) now? No idea if mine started out as a VLSD but its certainly open now.
