15" mags

HI there,
I need new set of wheels since one of the wheel damaged and failed to get new WOF. I'm looking for street wheels relatively lightweight and strong enough for bumpy NZ road.

Is anyone here have experience with DTM, TSW and MAK bland wheels? Are they any good?
I also looking a possibility of Advanti CP035-C if this is not aimed for competition.

the CPO_35 mags are based on the racing hart CPO-35 and are very light weight but would be a bit more fragile on NZ great roads than factory wheels but they are lighter.
Ross at MX5MART has some factory 15" wheels which are a good choice if you dont mind a factory look.

other good wheels to look at would be Enkei RPF-1 (or copies).or buddy club(or copies)...

weight is the biggest factor to consider as a lot of wheels are much much hevier than factory upsetting the nice ride.some kitchen scales would be good to check any prospective new wheels out on! :0

oops also forgot that theres a mag repairer in Tauranga....they are called Road wheels New zealand and are on 15th? avenue

Hi Ben - have you asked the wheel repair shops about fixing the wheel? In hindsight I should've done this with the damaged Volk TE37s I had , instead of selling it!

Otherwise those brands you mentioned are OK I feel (not expensive, middling weight range). It really depends on what you're trying to accomplish - good looks, light weight etc etc.

Oh, and there's some CPO-35's on trademe at the moment!

Thanks, guys for advice.
One of the local shop mentioned the repair and about $170 average for MAG.
I may need to send least 3 or possibly all of them to tidy up, so I decided to explorer option to replace them.

The Enkei RPF1 is excellent, but I cannot find the 15" (17" is available). The ES-Tarmac is available in 15" but it is for competition grade and according to the Japanese site, it does not guarantee any damage by using on the road.

One of the local shop (U-Save-Tyres) has 3 kind of 15" in stock. One is white 6 spoke with deep (really deep) dish. Look quite nice, but not sure about the weight and quality.

I will ask some weight and availability in several shops in Town (Nelson).

Update.

Advanti CP035-C is $170.00 each incl GST
DTM 157 Evo (bronze) is $240 each incl GST
DTM Kariber is $350 each incl GST

All 15x6.5 brand new price. I haven't find out what offset is available yet and so the weight of DTM wheels.

I'm towards to DTM 157 EVO, but still some research to do.

I think they quoted wrong size for DTM since other shop shop contacted to same wholesaler said there is only two set (same said by the previous shop) and they are not the 15".
I'm not quite a big fun of white wheels but if nothing there, CP305 it is.

Hi Ben, the other factor to watch out for is the offset measurement. The recommended offset for a MX5 (particularly an NA) is 45mm which is not very common. I understand that some later models have less. The suspension setup on the MX5 is optimised for this offset. Once again, it depends on how you are going to drive your car but if handling is very important then I would be looking for something that came as close as possible to the 45mm.

Ben...Euen is correct re offset in OEM 14" wheels, but the few NA cars ex factory with 15" wheels were 40mm offset.
Many aftermarket wheels are 38mm offset or less. Some would suggest that either 40 or 38 are ok on an NA, but 35mm should certainly be avoided for road use.

I've got ET40, the previous one was ET35 (previous owner put this one and pretty much scarfed all over).
ET35, with 195-50-15 looks good for filling fender, drives well in my experience. (I'm not driving that hard on the public road.)

The OEM 14" is 14x5.5J and the my new 15 is 15x6,5J so the 40 is correct offset in my understanding. Most new MX5 with 15" wheel use ET40.

New Wheel is lighter, so may be this is the prime factor but it gives me more good feel on the road.

I've got new set of CP035 and new set of Yokohama C.Drive (not many choice in this size) at Mag & Turbo, $1,175 in total after they take old wheel+tyre for $200. (include new bulb, nuts, balance and alignment).

Thee may be slightly better deal, but I'm pretty happy with their service and assistance while narrowing down the options. They re-painted brake carper before fitting new wheel as well.

Oh, and thank for pointing to TradeMe, Jif.

I did checked out, it looks good in low use but it still second hand and very close to the price quoted for bland new fitted in here. (only marginally difference and if I count postage to Nelson, it will be expensive than new set).
So, I opted to order new set.

It's good deal for someone live near him who can pick up though.

This is a excellent set of wheel!

Thanks, but I already got new set of CP035 from local Mag & Turbo.
I must say it was good service and I'm happy with outcome.

The "15x6.5jj ET40" was the spec, 13kg include tyre (Yoko C drive).
