Hi Guys
I've been getting a clunking from the back end of my '89 when accelerating hard, it's kind of like the tyres are almost letting go and something is moving back and forward creating a clunk.
It's been happening quite a while, originally thought it was my struts moving but have changed them and still does it, have also changed diff and still does it, all I can think is it may be worn bushings?
Any thoughts or anyone had a similar problem?
Cheers

I had my exhaust hitting the diff output drive-shaft flange on hard cornering so could be something similar?

Also check that your wheel alignment bolts are TIGHT as they could be moving a bit. Check all suspension bolts and bushings while your there too!

A mate's subie had a weird clunk like that, which turned out to be the muffler hitting the towbar.

Did you find the source of the clunk?

Finally got round to checking today. Driveshaft didnt seem to have any excessive play. It could be the exhaust hitting diff flanges, but I'm not convinced. Didn't get a chance to check alignment bolts etc, but everything's coming out for new bushings over the next few weeks so will get a better look then.

If you ever drive my car the clunks you'll hear are the FM (first gen) rear swaybar sliding left and right or the clutch diff which is noisy.

Check your left side engine mount. they are known to fail causing the engine to twist and bang on stuff like exhaust or cause ppf to twist/ clunk.

I'll have a look next time i'm at the car. Although I only recently changed the engine mounts so hopefully they're not toast already.

Another thing, while I have the car jacked up and somewhat apart to do the poly bushings, is there anything anyone would recommend to replace/check (not related to the clunk just maintenance wise)?

Finally got car back on the ground, i believe the noise was the exhaust banging around, i've put some stiffer hangers on which has got rid of most the banging
