Out of brake fluid, any special bleeding techniques?

Post by fooesboy » Sat Apr 12, 2014 9:39 pm

Hey guys,

I have just finished up rebuilding a calliper, the piston was sized and I needed to purchase a seal kit and new piston. This took some time for the parts to arrive and for me to find the time to get it done and during this time almost all of the brake fluid has drained out of the reservoir. I have also changed the rubber hoses out for some braided ones.

Is there anything special that I need to do while bleeding the system?

Cheers!

We've done this before (bled it so low it ran out in the reservoir)

There's nothing special you can do that you wouldn't normally do while bleeding.

Start bleeding from the furtherest away side (Rear left), work your way up to the closest, RL, RR, FL, FR.

Make sure bubbles aren't still coming out by the time you've finished!

Cool, thanks for that! It was suggested to me that I would need to have the car running while bleeding the brakes... something to do with the vacuum brake booster.

no need to have the car running. bleed from the left rear then right rear, then left front , then right front.

If the car has abs there are sometimes special techniques to bleed the system requiring the car to be running or the key to be turned on, not sure if it applies to the mx5, but if yor car is non abs then the system is as per previous posts.
