Hey all, how's it going?

Can someone give me some recommendations regarding a half-cage fabricator? From my research, just the 4-point hoop behind the seat, and preferably cheap

I've recently bought a fairly rough NA6C and I'm looking to do some track days/gymkhanas. Learn me some driving skills. When's the next event?

Also, I need new shocks, but at least they don't need to be fabricated!

Afternoon Mate, Welcome to the forums.

If your in Auckland Chubb Racing ( http://www.rollcage.co.nz/ ) are the go, but also DKM Fab http://www.dkmfabrication.co.nz/ and TTT automotive https://www.facebook.com/TTTAuto are both choice as fabrication spots. Im not sure on price as I dont actually have a roll bar but i think they normally set you back around $500 but im sure someone who actually has a bar can shed some light.

Shocks, look for some OEM Bilsteins for a cheep but pretty good set up. If you want to spend a bit more you can get some new bilsteins and pick your spring rate and have the shocks valved, but again I cheated and just got some adjustable coilovers so dont actually have any experience.

You also may want to look at some new wheels, like 15x8's but not zero fucking offset maybe more around the 45-35 zone, and some quality tyres. They make the world of difference.

Chubb racing quoted me $700 for a weld in half cage to MSNZ standards, haven't got around to going ahead with it yet.

True roll bars come up on trade me sometimes around $400-$500. As for shocks, drive other peoples cars. Dont go buying great track shocks that you use 1% of the time that are terrible for the road 99% of the time.

If you want a data point, I have 500 lbs front springs and 400 lbs rear springs on valved for me Bilsteins. Plenty comfortable for my NA6, but some passengers sometimes complain on potholes. I have one of the Racing Beat hollow front bars as well.

400f/~300r would probably be best for road only use with the occasional track day/autocross/gymkhana.

If you got the choose your own springs and valve a Bilstein route, get your car weighed as it will give Racelign (or whoever you use for the valving work) something to work from (with you in the car and half tank of petrol).

MX5 cup cars run 500-550lb front 300-350lb rear as a reference. Also dont take what you read about setups from the usa as a good setup here.. there tracks are a lot flatter than most of ours.

Bilsteins + dobis = jarring.
Kyb's + dobis = great.
Cusco coilovers = better than great.

That's what I've heard from some of the guys at work too. Some of the bumps apparently set up some weird ass harmonics.

Divide by 56 to convert lb/inch to kgf/mm i.e. 500lb/inch springs are ~9kgf/mm

Alright Mx-5ers, I've started. I forked out for some used Bilsteins, chucked them in over the weekend, and am now in desperate need of an alignment.

Next on shopping list is tyres, ain't that an age-old question!

alot of mx5ers are keen on their Bridgestone RE002. They come in a 195/50 and also 205/50

Bit late posting to this..
But also try Quest Fabrication in silverdale.

I've seen roll bars/cages from all parties and quest is most defiantly the best quality.
