I have used my NA6 front calipers with 1.8 rotors and mounts and just wondered if the NA8 front calipers are in fact different even though the NA6 bolt up OK?

Calipers between NA6C and NA8C are indeed identical,It's just the cradles(brake pad holder) and rotors that are different

What...you haven't done the "BIG" brake conversion yet ?.
Your safe for a bit,Our part's procurement guy is home at the moment,Not due back in Japan for another month yet.
And then 6-8 weeks before the next container,
Just hope the Japs are stock piling Roadsters for us.They usually do.

First time i'd heard you only needed the carrier to upgrade them
Thought you had to swap callipers and everything so threw it in the cbf basket.
Ive got a few things to sort out before doing any more mods, mainly cert related stuff. But you will hear from me at some point

I picked up some brake calipers from a 2004 NB today. (thank you Donovan!) I just need to track down a set of new rotors and I will then be able to go from 9.25" rotors to 11" rotors
and I had the pleasure of experiencing the awesomeness of Donovans V8 stealth monster..... OMFG ME WANT NAO!

be very careful that we are all talking about the same thing, the brakes that MrGrey got from me are from a 04 Sport NB, which I am pretty sure are a different unit from the NB 98-02 non sport brake

indeed, Donovan is right, the 98-02 uses a 10" rotor while the 04 sport I have uses an 11"
sure, some may say that the extra inch doesn't count for much, but thats usually what people with little rotors say
if you know what I mean

The calipers are NOT identical. Having been burned by this today, I thought I'd set this straight.
The front calipers have a big slider and a small slider. On my 1.8, the small slider is at the top, the big at the bottom. This is reversed on the 1.6 caliper. Not identical.
I suspect if you have a pair, you could swap the left/right brackets and make them work.

its common knowledge that you have to swap sides when doing the conversion.

This. The piston diameter and all hydraulics are the same between them. You will have the same braking power no matter which caliper you use. You need to swap left to right but otherwise only the rotor and the pad retainer change

I recall reading that now, but it doesn't make the calipers identical.
In my situation I couldn't find a replacement NA8 caliper in Hamilton so assuming that they were "identical" I bought an NA6 caliper (the much cheaper option..)

If they are the "same" as stated, does that mean both share the
same brake pads?

No. The pads are held in place by the caliper bracket. The NA8 bracket holds a larger pad and accommodates a larger diameter brake rotor.
