not so great roadholding - any suggestions?

I recently acquired a 1990 MX5. If it hits a small bump when cornering, the back slips (i.e. momentary loss of road grip). Is this normal for the MX5?

I'm guessing it's the type of diff it has, or that the shocks aren't particularly good... Mine used to when it was on really bad suspension when I first bought it

A small bump? Depending on how much your pushing it, or if you have very stiff springs but no, that is not common for an MX.
It should stick to the road like shit to a blanket, until you push it past it's limits or you purposely make it step out...
Your shocks could be shagged or crap tyres?
I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

Yes. Very normal for raodster.

Drifts allways even when going straight.

Careful drifts can be dangerous and people may be hurt.

Could be a wheel alignment issue as well. Too much toe will cause that, or some worn bushes... Basically I'd be having a look at the condition of the rear suspension and bushes in general.
Cool sunroof bro...

Yeah - When people are asking legit questions. I mean no offence to the guy that posted but the first things I would be checking are tyres, and alignment

Good point. Higher pressures will have you sliding a lot more. Especially in the wet (you don't want to find out the way I did)

if it's low enough to be sitting on the bumpstops then yeah, it could be quite slide-y ..

hahahaha I always love this

No it's not unusual for the back to slide out in an mx5 just takes getting used too

There are some basic ways to make it happen less often
1. Tyres
2. Shocks & Springs
3. Wheel Alignment (Get some new eccentric bolts they don't hold alignment as well when they are worn)
4. >30 PSI of Tyre pressure
5. Stiffer Bushes
6. Sway Bars

If all this fails get an open diff cause you can't drive
