Anyone know a good (read cheap) place to get generic 'fit all' style dust
boots for shock absorbers, or even cheap or second hand MX5 ones?
Or does anyone have any spares?
I was quoted $26 per boot for some today. Quite expensive for a bit of
rubber I would have thought...
Thanks

(Oil filters) Couple of Questions...
I pulled apart a repco filter also a Mazda filter recently. I had a Fram one apart a while ago but not sure what I did with it. I use a Mazda one unless I'm doing a change on a sunday (repco is open - greenlane mazda is not). I like the mazda one as it is smaller and easier to fit (and it is black!)...

Towbar for Cycle Carrier
I know a number of US vendors stock receiver hitches especially for bikes - you could try looking through the list of online vendors at http://www.miata.net/marketplace.html Might be nicer than having to put a towbar on - but you'll have to worry about freight etc. Or there is an innovative DIY solu...

wiper blades
No big difference in them IMHO. Some offer 2 rubber blades in the one piece (like gillette razors) :) These don't seem to do anything more though. I've even seen some with RED blades! But sorry I wouldn't know where to get them. You used to have to replace the whole metal/rubber wiper on the end of ...

New model for 2001 - the M2.5
If you're interested, there is a new model released for 2001 in the US. Not sure how much of this will be taken on board for the NZ model. Exclusive pics at http://people.we.mediaone.net/cowchip/m2_5.html if you can connect - the site is very busy though, and you may have problems. Variable valve ti...
LSD
I've been trying to source a LSD in NZ but with no success yet. There is good VLSD information at miata.net which relates to the US models, but some of it applys. http://www.miata.net/garage/vlsd.html It is also useful to note that you cannot test for a LSD by dropping the clutch and looking for two...

buying an MX5
Here is a good FAQ http://www.miata.net/faq/usedmx5.html It is US biased, but should be useful. If anyone wants to give some more info, I may think about putting a FAQ or page of some sort on our web site specifically for NZ. Here's some stuff I found out (Mostly too late after I bought mine!) Some ...

Hydraulic lifter noise
Hi David & welcome. the noise was still there. How long should I leave the engine running in the hope that it will disappear? Maybe a trip to the redline will fix it? What is the fix for noisy lifters if It won't go away on it's own? I'm unsure of the oil grade in the engine. Other MX5's I have now ...

Drip on Drivers side (no not the driver...)
I have a drip on my accelleration foot in the foot well when it rains. In heavy rain sometimes it gets quite bad. Has anyone seen this before? I know the US models have a condensation drain in the passenger footwell from the a/c but is on the drivers side in RHD models? I'm guessing not due to where...

Spotlights (was Re: Yourmiata.com registry)
Not sure what you mean. Some 99 models came with spotlights in the bumpers - not sure about NZ though. Some earlier models may have had spotlights as dealer options also. Many earlier MX5s and a lot of the new ones have aftermarket lights fitted. These could be anywhere from 50 to 100Watts or more -...

a word of warning
Very sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, no stereo is safe these days - especially in a convertible. A number of companies make hideaway stereos now (stealth face plates - including JVC, Kenwood and now Sony) which I recommend, or at lease use a detachable face plate one and remove the plate. (take i...

I've heard this comment before about batteries, but I am a bit skeptical. My battery is still original (in so far as I can can tell, having looked at all tell tail signs) and it is a 94. I would expect an Glass Matt type battery to last 6-8 years or more if looked after properly. (That's if you stil...

Ordering stuff from finish line performance
I'm contemplating ordering a few things from
http://www.finishlineperformance.com/
Freight is guessed to be about US$75.
Anyone like to order something and share airfreight costs?
I don't really want to wait a few weeks for a boat to deliver it.
